That's because the political machines that protected some of these people is
now gone.  Without their protection, the activists know that they are
vulnerable now.

I think there are a lot of good people who got sucked into the Deep State.

I also think that there are a lot of people in the Deep State that can see
which way the wind is blowing and decided to cooperate to protect themselves.
