I think there needs to be a politically-agnostic auditor general
position with the power to audit the federal budget. There also needs to
be a branch of the office tasked with public awareness of budget
implications and tie them to legislators.

DOGE was essentially a non-equal 4th branch of government with
unilateral power to slash budgets and departments voted into existence
by our legislators.

I'd rather see an office that had no political sway that would inform
the voters of the implications of the acts being passed.

DOGE? No way - DOGE damaged our national security in more ways than we
can know. Hillary keeping emails on a private server? No, how about DOGE
storing social security information in the cloud?

DOGE existed for one reason only - for Elon Musk to train AIs with
federal information (and probably sell it on to the highest bidder)

DOGE was supposed to slash federal spending, but it went UP while they
were there, and continues to go up afterwards.
