I can't.  It's been corrupt for a long time.  But in the past, it was a
personal corruption and the people involved knew that they had a limit because
too much would hurt everyone - including themselves.

In more recent history, the corruption seems to almost be at a self-destructive
level.  And Osama wasn't the start.  He was just the most visible in recent
history.

And you see that's the difference.

Long ago, things like insider trading enriched the particular senator, but did
little to harm the country as a whole.  And if the senator kept things quiet,
he could retire wealthy, and have a nice country to live in.

In more recent history, it seems like they not only want to enrich themselves,
but wreck the country too.  So they retire wealthy, but live in a s#!t hole. 
That makes no sense for greedy people.
