I think it's the other way around.  Barry came about because of what the
Democrat party has become.

And it is.  All our problems came through the Democrat party.

But remember what Reagan said: It communism comes to the U.S., it will be
through Leftism (paraphrasing here since I can't find the direct quote).

Because the Left is the party of totaltarianism, socialism, big gov't, etc.

For a long time, classical liberalism was very compatible with conservativism. 
We wanted the same things, but we differed on how to get there.

Now those classical liberals are part of the conservative camp as the Left has
moved all the way to totalitarism.
