I love running modern software on old computers: gopher://uninformativ.de/I/phlog/2023/2023-07/2023-07-29--1.jpg gopher://uninformativ.de/I/phlog/2023/2023-07/2023-07-29--2.jpg This machine is almost 30 years old (and it's still working!), yet it runs a current version of OpenBSD, even software that I wrote for my usual workstation. I like this a lot. Judging by the performance of this old machine, I might not need to replace my current workstation (which is already over a decade old) for another 10 or maybe 20 years ... ? Crazy. (It's a bit "dangerous" to run modern stuff on old boxes, though. It makes you think these machines are quite slow, like, compiling a C program really takes time. But I don't think that's fair. Today's software is vastly more complex than that of 30 years ago.) (This phlog post was written on Windows 3.11.)
