-- 26-04-07 | beading, freebsd, executive function --------- it's raining on and off today. my friend and i went on a walk to a field by a community garden. we threw the frisbee, then we went to eat fries before the rain got too heavy. there's an older man and woman who own the poutine shop. the woman gives us student discounts, the man doesn't. we ate, we shared an icecream after. i played with the texture of the soft-serve in my mouth. i'm still fighting to get suspend/resume consistently working on freebsd, with some success. i think it properly sleeps and wakes up the first time, and every subsequent attempt leaves the display blank. there's an outdoor art market in a few days - the whyte avenue art walk - which one of my friends will be tabling at. she offered to go together but i didn't make anything. i set up my bead loom but i didn't thread a bead on it yet. i wonder how some people can be on such a roll. -- 26-01-16 | xemacs stable release ------------------------ there was recently a stable xemacs release (first one since 2009). it doesn't build on my computer cause i don't have glibc, but it's nice to see a non-beta release from them :3 -- 26-01-01 | new year :3 ---------------------------------- i pulled out my raspberry pi again ! happy to be looking at it again. i had to remember my password, and since i moved, i had to tell it what my new gateway is. i haven't upgraded openbsd in a while, it wants to upgrade to 7.4 but 7.7 is the earliest one on the site. so i had to use a different /etc/installurl anyway, take care :3 -- 25-12-24 | finger protocol ------------------------------ finger is nice. i like that you can only have one page, rather than a collection of posts that keep on pushing the older ones down. i think there's a lot to work with there. i looked at "Spring '83" and the concept felt a lot like finger, and it goot me thinking about having an interface to finger that shows the .plan of everyone you follow, in a grid-like fashion. i haven't made anything yet but i'm imagining an ncurses-like interface, with maybe 3 columns, and each column contains a username and the first 20-or-so chars in their .plan file, which you can expand to full-screen view when selected. with the 16 terminal colors there's also the capability of coloring different people. if i have a ".following" config file it could look like: emily@tilde.pink brightred jmjl@tilde.green green the interface would update once a day, and would keep the current content of each .plan cached so that it could sort by latest update (or random, if you want?) but maybe this is over-engineered, and it would be better to just have a script 'fingers.sh' that does something like: printf "\033[01;31m$(finger emily@tilde.pink) \033[01;32m$(finger jmjl@tilde.green)\n" and then check for new content with: ./fingers.sh > finger-wall.txt diff $(./fingers.sh) finger-wall.txt anyway, just an idea. take care :3 -- 25-12-14 | VF-1 is kinda cute --------------------------- i played around a bit with ~solderpunk's vf1 gopher browser and i enjoy it :3 it feels simple which is nice, it's inspiring me to do some more programming of my own. -- 25-12-10 | spruce forest back up ------------------------ gopher://tilde.pink/1~emily/forest/index.gph so i'm putting this up again, making another attempt at managing this thing. i'm keeping everyone who still has a gopher site on the ring, regardless of whether or not they have SFGR links on their page (i've realized it's really not required). come on in and try it out if you want. send me an email about it. it's still pretty clumsy but i think it'll be fine, uwu -- 25-12-09 | regarding the spruce forest gopher ring ------ so a few years back i tried making a couple of cgi scripts that would work as a "web ring" style software for gopher sites. and it worked well-ish. it had a couple bugs, and eventually i didn't have the energy to continue maintaining it, and i took it down entirely. im hoping to change that in the near future, and i hope i can keep it somewhat maintained and usable. though maybe some more automation could do me well. i thought briefly about renaming it to 'sakaw' (the nehiyaw name for forest), but i think 'the spruce forest gopher ring' has a good ring to it (get it? ring?) it's not up yet, but this gopherhole is. along with the spruce forest, i also took down my old posts. i think i'll keep it that way. i don't mind contributing to a little bit of bit-rot, as a treat. anyway. i'll be back on here soon-ish. mwestas!
