December 10th, 2014: It appears I have another project! Once again I've headed Back to the 'Shack and have started working on *another* Tandy machine... this time, my Tandy 2800HD laptop. I've had the 2800 for quite a while, since 2001/02 or so, bought for a song at a local flea market. I didn't care if it worked, to be honest; I was simply going to cannibalize it for its hard drive, for transplanting into my Tandy 1500HD. After playing with the 2800 for a while (and realizing it was a better machine), I decided against that plan and kept it around. The 2800 saw use periodically whenever I went off on an anti-Windows/anti-GUI tirade (which were frequent at that time), chiefly for text editing and terminal use. I used the 2800 to write the intro to the original Thugs' page, in which I refer to the machine as emitting a "migraine-inducing whine"! Eventually, though, I lost interest and the machine was relegated to manipulating SNES ROMs for my Game Doctor 7 SNES backup unit. My interest was rekindled recently while searching for software/hardware for another x86 project. Figuring there was only so much I could do with the other machine, I decided to offload some of my plans to the 2800. While exploring the 2800 to see what I still had installed, I came across a directory full of my old writing (unfinished blog posts, unformatted web pages, etc), including what was the start of "The Tandy Diaries", an ongoing project log of my various Tandy systems... most of which I still have! So, my old 2800HD has finally achieved full Project status. Watch for The Tandy Diaries coming soon to this phlog. Speaking of this phlog... looking back, The Backroad to Civilization had been updated more times this year than all my other blogs and sites COMBINED! Not too hard to see where my heart lies. That said, I'm thinking of reorganizing the site and putting *all* my computer-related stuff under The Thugs' banner. Then again, perhaps not. I don't know... I'll think about it after New Years, have to weigh the benefits..
