I don't really read very many books. But until recently I did own an e-reader, a Kindle keyboard that I got for christmas 2011. In the year or so that I had it I did end up reading a lot more than I thought I might though, including The Pickwick Papers by Dickens (Hey, I'm proud, that's a fat friggin book!). Then a few days ago my wife stepped on our son's Kindle and broke the screen. Since I only read 12-15 actual e-books a year, and my son goes through dozens (he reads his kindle nightly) I gave him mine as a replacement (I believe he's learned his lesson about leaving good stuff on the floor). I've still got my Kindle Fire to read on if I want to read something. A couple days ago my Fire started acting up and wouldn't load any files through the "Docs" menu. If the files were in the carousel they'd load up just fine, but most of the pdf manuals and side- loaded .mobi books weren't in the carousel. I don't have any idea what caused this problem. I uninstalled a whole bunch of 3rd party apps I had, rebooted many times, nothing brought back my ability to read things. Nobody on the kindle forums had any helpful ideas, so I finally ended up backing things up and doing a factory reset. Interestingly enough, the factory reset also reset the ability to get a free 30 day preview of Amazon prime. I wasn't eligible the first time I activated it because the wife and I share the amazon account, and hers was still less than a year since activation. Anyway, with the free prime trial, I was able to "borrow" a book that I've been wanting to read instead of buying it. Awesome. Then I realized, even though I don't read a whole lot of books, it might be nice to be able to look back sometimes and see just what books I have read in the last year, this summer, that type of thing. So this whole post is to point out that I now have a "bookshelf" file here that I'll update with books I'm actually reading. Not what I intend to read, not reviews of what I've read, just a log of books I read. Wonder how many I'll end up with this year.
