-----------------------GOLF (the card game) INSTRUCTIONS------------------------ -------------------------Compiled by John T. Wodder II-------------------------- NEEDED: 1 deck of cards; players SET-UP At the beginning of each hand, the dealer shuffles the deck of cards & deals out 4 cards in a 2x2 grid to each player, with the two cards nearest each player face-up and the other two cards face-down. After dealing, the deck is placed in the center of the table, and the top card is placed face-up next to it to start the discard pile. The player to the dealer's left takes the first turn, and play proceeds clockwise. PLAY During each player's turn, (s)he either takes the top card on the discard pile or else draws a card from the deck. This card then replaces one of the player's cards (including the face-down ones, whose replacements must also be face-down), and the replaced card is put face-up on the discard pile. Alternatively, the player may simply place the card (s)he just took on top of the discard pile. As soon as a player so desires, (s)he may ``knock,'' and all players then turn all of their cards face-up. The total point value for each set of cards is calculated & added to the respective player's score, and then the next hand begins. A normal game consists of eighteen hands, though a shorter game of nine hands may be played. SCORING & WINNING Card | Value ------------------------ King, Queen | 2 points Jack | 0 points Ace | -1 point Joker | -2 points All other cards are worth their numeric rank. If a player's hand contains two cards of the same rank, they together count for zero points. The player with the lowest score at the end of the game wins.
