we worked on rebuilding the stone wall in the yard today. 
it was there before, and we didn't know how much of it, 
till he pulled away all the ivy and started digging. much
of the old mortar had turned to mud and dust, and portions
of the wall had crumbled. other areas were buried in the slope
of the little lawn. he tore out everything that wobbled,
cleared the rest of it free of the earth, and swept and 
brushed everything clean. we've been piecing it all back 
together, with fresh mortar, fitting the stones against each
other in new combinations. 

after a while the rain started, and we came inside.
