Something Blue - Trumpet Jazz_Alliance-Edge_05_28_2009-Straight_No_Chaser-kasu.wav Welcome to Something Blue. I'm Hairy Larry and I've got the Blues, for you. Jazz_Alliance-Edge_10_23_2009-Speak_Low.wav All right now, that's Jazz Alliance playing "Speak Low", recorded right here in Jonesboro, Arkansas at The Edge Coffeehouse on October 23, 2009. Playing on "Speak Low" were Ron Horton, trumpet, Craig Collison, drums, and David Eckert, bass. Kicking us off tonight we heard a Blues called "Straight No Chaser" recorded on May 28, 2009. On the May 28 date Corey Emerson played the bass. You're listening to Something Blue on KASU and tonight's all Jazz and all live. Listen on the internet streaming at kasu.org or listen to the podcasts anytime at the Something Blue website, sbblues.com. To keep up with what I'm doing and the music shows I'm enjoying go to deltaboogie.com and join the Delta Boogie Network. It's our new band pages and we have many fine musicians posting their songs and videos there. Now here's Jazz Alliance, live at The Edge, with "Little Sunflower". Jazz_Alliance-Edge_05_28_2009-Little Sunflower.wav Oh yeah, some great Jazz from some Jonesboro musicians, Jazz Alliance. Jazz Alliance often plays as a quartet or a quintet but on the recordings featured tonight they are playing as a trio. Craig Collison and Ron Horton both teach at ASU, Corey Emerson is band director at Hoxie, and David Eckert works at the Jonesboro Public Library. I made the recordings we're listening to tonight on my Zoom H4 flash recorder and it is my privilege to learn from and record these fine musicians. I encourage all of you to go see them live. They always put on a great show. Here they are, one more time tonight, playing "Black Orpheus". Jazz_Alliance-Edge_05_28_2009-Black_Orpheus.wav ----- jam2010-04-01t01.mp3 - On the Sunny Side of Street jam2010-04-01t03.mp3 - Shake that Thing All right now, we're listening to some great Jazz I found at the Live Music Archive. It's the MIOW Jazz Quartet recorded live at Estrella Mountain Community College in Avondale, Arizona, on April 1, 2010. They have a great traditional Jazz sound and you can really hear the Blues in what they play. MIOW stands for Music In Our World and playing with the band at this concert are Jason Mosall, Trumpet; Gabe Hall-Rodrigues, Accordion, Keys, and Ganjo; Kevin Bock, Tuba; Wes Anderson, Drums; and Dr. Jean Pierce, Piano. Ok, I had to look Ganjo up and it's a six string Banjo, like a banjo with a guitar neck. We heard "On the Sunny Side of Street" and "Shake That Thing". Here they are again with "Galactic". jam2010-04-01t04.mp3 - Galactic Now that's some fine trumpet and some unusual instrumentation at work. They really are all about Music In Our World. You're listening to Something Blue on KASU and we're playing Jazz for you tonight. Every Jazz band plays some Blues and all Jazz is Blues related. Coming up next is an Antonio Carlos Jobim song, "How Insensitive". jam2010-04-01t05.mp3 - How Insensitive jam2010-04-01t06.mp3 - Libertango That's what I'm talking about, The Music In Our World Jazz Quartet playing "Libertango", live. You can hear the whole concert on the Live Music Archive at archive.org. Or log onto Delta Boogie at deltaboogie.com and scroll down for a list of new concerts being posted at the Live Music Archive. Closing the show tonight we're going to hear two traditional songs, both Gospel music standards played in a traditional Jazz style. Here's "Amazing Grace" and "When The Saints Go Marching In" from the Music In Our World Jazz Quartet. jam2010-04-01t07.mp3 - Amazing Grace/When the Saints Go Marchin' In
