Purpose ------- The purpose of radio_app is to create podcasts from songs posted on the Live Music Archive, allow the dj to record the spoken parts of the show, edit and upload the spoken parts to an LMA item and assemble a podcast .m3u file that is hosted on the same LMA item but could be posted anywhere. Features ------- Select show to work on or create new show. Name new show now or later. Browse the Live Music Archive and select music for the show. Record and trim spoken parts. Maybe normalize. Display and sort the podcast with the spoken parts still local. Allow the dj to listen to the show or to the transitions. Name the show. Show title and episode title. (Something Blue, Arkansas Guitarists) Post the show to a new Live Music Archive item created with show title and episode title and post date. Upload the spoken parts and the .m3u playlist file. Also post a track one that explains what the item is and that the LMA player only plays the spoken bits. Include a link to the playlist in the text portion of the item's detail page. Include widget code on the item's detail page to embed the playlist with a player. Include the player on the detail page if that is possible. The program should be self contained allowing the user to do all necessary production. It should also allow the user to use their preferred audio recorder and editor by just saving the audio files in the correct folder. It should allow the user the option of downloading and trimming the song files when that is permitted by the band. Most bands have no problem with their LMA uploads being hosted on other LMA pages. Many of the songs on the LMA are posted for non commercial use only. Others are public domain or ok for any distribution. Include a FAQ explaining correct use of non commercial recordings. Main uses ------- This could be used for professional radio production. But it probably won't be. The more likely usages scenarios are podcasters on the go or at their desktop. They may be promoting their own band or bands they like or like any radio show they may focus on a genre or sweep of genres. The idea is that if you're somewhere with your phone you can produce a podcast with just this app running on your phone. User flow ------- Select songs. Build a playlist. Listen to songs and transitions. Record spoken parts. Add the spoken parts to the playlist. Listen to songs, spoken parts, and transitions. Edit/massage music and spoken parts. Reorder playlist. Record new or updated spoken parts. Trim songs if necessary and permitted. Ideally these last two steps are a single screen where you manage the playlist and review it. Create new item on archive.org and upload the stuff on the playlist that is not already hosted at archive.org. Upload the playlist and the detail text. The user can then use the archive.org edit function to enhace the text, add pictures, etc.
