I borrow the Syntakt from my friend who has apparently all the synth I need! I've purchased the Digitone II as I needed a machine dedicated to drums. The DT II is a synth, but it can do drum, and is so versatile that I though it would work well in my workflow. But it ended up being too complex to get where I wanted to go. While I like crafting sound on my Mopho, a substractive analog synth, I don't like spending too much time on elektron device to design a new sound. Elektron machine are good for sequencing, I like their effects, and the ease of reaching the most important sound sculpting tools, but I don't want to spend a lot of time designing sound from scratch on them. All that to say, that the Syntakt seems to hit the spot. It's a digital + analog drum machine, it has a nice bank of analog effects. With the new system you can also load samples, 64 of them. You can feed the audio-in, which is then affected with the master effect, which helps to blend my Mopho with the drum sounds. But more importantly, I sat with it today, and I created a few fun grooves in an instant. There is enough freedom to choose between a good selection of 'machine' but not too much depth as how to change all the settings for all the machine. You are limited to a small section of parameters, yet you always have your filters, amps, effect, 2 lfo per sound for all of them. Will I make more music now? That's the true test. I was so excited about the Digitone, but I ended up making even less music, since the machine itself required too much time or energy. I want something simple, which seems to be a theme in my life right now. Lets hope for a more music filled life :D
