Social media connection

I don't know, I used to let anyone
connect with me, then I made my
mastodon request needing approval,
then I felt really bad not to approve
people when they do a request.

I like when people reach me by email
and start a conversation. That I don't
mind. Similar to people in the street,
if you start talking to me, I'll be
happy to talk.

Data collection

I am annoyed more than worried. I
never browse the internet with my
google account connected. I don't
collect history in my browser. I
don't participate in social network
apart from mastodon. I don't buy on
Amazon. Although I have an apple
account for my daughter, I don't
use any of their product. I use
a paid email service, and a
proton mail email too. I don't
have any streaming account either.
I pirate all of the tv show and
movies I watch (which has been
really little since solstice!)
And I buy DRM free music directly
from small online store. 

I run linux on all my machine,
with my own router running
linux too. I don't put an extra
effort in security or privacy,
ie. I don't use a vpn or a strong
firewall etc. Just the fact that
I don't need to login to any online
account to get to my computer is
already good enough. I use a custom rom
on my broken android phone. 
I use librewolf for my browser,
when on the surface web. 

I also try to not participate
in the online economy too much.

I'd rather buy offline, or at
least directly to the shop owner
online (instead of ebay or amazon.)
I try when I can to buy used,
local, offline and pay cash.

When I buy a new piece of electronic
I put more effort toward this.
For a new phone or laptop, I'll
make an effort to make sure it's
paid cash and the hardware is used,
and I change some part, like the
hard drive. Seems a bit paranoid,
but I've got into the habit of
doing that. 

I spend more time in gopher and
sdf chat + bboard, then on the
surface web too. 

I feel quite 'safe' in a sense
that I am not a criminal, so I
don't need too much hiding, and
I assume that data collection is
mostly to sell you stuff. I feel
the extra effort it would take
to track me and sell me stuff
wouldn't be worth it. I also feel
like if you are using a vpn, tor,
and a lot more privacy tool, you
stick out a lot more than if
you practice a few rules of
data security hygiene.

Reward for a difficult task.

I used to reward myself with the
most trashy things. Drug, sex, tv
whatever the bad habit. Now, I
don't know. Maybe a nap? Or a
bath? I guess I'd take myself
and a fried to the restaurant
if I just finished (and paid)
a bit contract.

Natural disaster

The biggest natural disaster I've
been in, was the ice storm in Quebec
many years ago. The ice storm knocked
the whole power grid and a huge part
of Quebec was without power. We had
to evacuate and find a place where
there was power. It wasn't too big
of a deal, although the whole province
freaked out for a while.

Radio request?

I never though it was real when
I was a kid. I though it was
part of the show, that no one
really called a radio station.
Still not part of my reality.
