Geek of the Week - Tim O'Reilly
DIR Back to Yesterday's Tomorrow Index
05/27/1994 - Tim O'Reilly
Tim O'Reilly has an unusual background for a publishing magnate.
Working as a Unix consultant, O'Reilly & Associates developed a
special relationship with the arcane UUCP protocols, expertise that
led to a set of two pamphlets describing how to manage, set up, and
use UUCP and Usenet. The original two Nutshell Guides grew into a
fairly extensive set of documentation covering the X Window System,
Unix, Languages, and recently a variety of Internet topics.
Carl Malamud interviews O'Reilly about how commerce can run on the
Internet, looking at on-line enterprises like the Global Network
Navigator as early examples of what to do (and not do) when doing
business in a networked world.
