{1.0	Description of Programs
This Release Notice describes the Raster Font and Icon Designers version 2.0. This section and the sections that follow provide a description of the product, contents of the Distribution Diskette, installation procedures, and other information pertinent to this release.
The Raster Font and Icon Designers in conjunction with their utilities are programming tools that simplify the task of creating icons and fonts for use in other graphics applications.  The Icon Designer is used to create and modify icons.  The Raster Font Designer is used to create and modify raster fonts.  The Font utilities are used to convert character fonts to raster fonts and to display raster fonts.  The pointing device supported by this version is the Convergent Mouse PD001.}

{2.0	Changes from Prior Version
A.	Supports GC003 graphics controller and Series 286i workstations.
B.	Speed improvements in all areas.
C.	The Raster Font Designer now supports variable width fonts and characters whose bitmaps are larger than the character width. For example italic fonts where the character overlaps with others. This called for the addition of another flag on the bottom of the edit area.
D.	A visual improvement has been made so that selections for copy and move are identified by a fine screen over the area.
E.	The READ menu for font editing has been corrected to add 'From Work Box'. This was documented correctly but ommitted in the implementation.
{3.0	Contents of Distribution Diskette
The Raster Font and Icon Designers Distribution Diskette is your master copy, and has been shipped writeprotected.  It should not be writeenabled, nor should it be used as a working copy.}
The Raster Font and Icon Designer requires Standard Software version 10.2 or greater and CTOS version 9.6 or greater.
The Distribution Diskette contains the following files in the <CT> directory:
   Icondesign.run	IconForm.lib
   720x348_80Sys.font	ShowRasterFont.run
   RasterFontConvert.run
The Distribution Diskette contains the following file in the <ReleaseNote> directory:
   ReleaseNotice
In addition to various standard system files, the Distribution Diskette contains the following files in the <Sys> directory:
   HdInstall.sub	MfInstall.sub
{4.0	Installation Procedures
The Raster Font and Icon Designer should only be used on Convergent Information Processing Systems which are equipped with hard disk, or in clusters where the master is equipped with hard disk.
Use the installation procedures described below (after updating the Standard Software revision level, if required). Characters that you must type are shown in boldface. Special keys, such as RETURN and GO, are shown in upper case.
}
4.1	StandAlone Hard Disk Systems
{A.	Signon and set path at the standalone workstation. If the Signon form is displayed, fill it in and press GO. Set the path as follows:
Command   Path  RETURN
Path
  [Volume]	Sys  RETURN
  [Directory]	Sys  RETURN
  [Default file prefix]	RETURN
  [Password]	(if any)  GO
  [Node]
	If your hard disk has a volume password on [Sys], fill this password into the [Password] field before pressing GO.}
{B.	Insert the Raster Font and Icon Designer Distribution Diskette in drive [f0] and submit HdInstall.sub as follows:
Command   Submit RETURN
Submit
  File list          [f0]<Sys>HdInstall.sub GO
  [Parameters]
  [Force expansion?]
  [Show expansion?]}
{C.	Remove the Raster Font and Icon Designer distribution diskette from drive [f0] and save it as an archive.
Note: Refer to the Raster Font and Icon Designer Manual for information on how to use this product.}
{4.2	Master Hard Disk Systems
A.	Signon and set path at the master workstation. If the Signon form is displayed, fill it in and press GO. Set the path as follows:
Command   Path  RETURN
Path
  [Volume]	Sys  RETURN
  [Directory]	Sys  RETURN
  [Default file prefix]	RETURN
  [Password]	(if any)  GO
  [Node]
	If your hard disk has a volume password on [Sys], fill this password into the [Password] field before pressing GO.}
{B.	Disable the Cluster workstations as follows:
Command   Disable Cluster  GO}
{C.	Insert the IconFont Designer Distribution Diskette in drive [f0] and submit HdInstall.sub as follows:
Command   Submit RETURN
Submit
  File list          [f0]<Sys>HdInstall.sub GO
  [Parameters]
  [Force expansion?]
  [Show expansion?]}
{D.	Resume Cluster operations at the workstations as follows:
Command   Resume Cluster  GO}
{E.	Remove the Raster Font and Icon Designer distribution diskette from drive [f0] and save it as an archive.
Note: Refer to the Raster Font and Icon Designer Manual for information on how to use this product.}
{4.3	MegaFrame SRP Systems
The Raster Font and Icon Designer is a workstation only and uses the MegaFrame SRP only as a master.  The run files may be installed on the MegaFrame in one of the two following ways:  If using a dualfloppy system without any hard disk, to install the files use the same procedure as explained under section 4.1.  If installing on a system with a hard disk use the following steps:}
A.	Signon and set path at the workstation. If the Signon form is displayed, fill it in and press GO. Set the path as follows:
Command   Path  RETURN
Path
  [Volume]	Sys  RETURN
  [Directory]	Sys  RETURN
  [Default file prefix]	RETURN
  [Password]	(if any)  GO
  [Node]
	If your MegaFrame has a volume password on [Sys], fill this password into the [Password] field before pressing GO.}
{B.	Insert the IconFont Designer Distribution Diskette in drive [f0] and submit MfInstall.sub as follows:
Command   Submit RETURN
Submit
  File list          [f0]<Sys>MfInstall.sub GO
  [Parameters]
  [Force expansion?]
  [Show expansion?]}
{C.	Remove the Raster Font and Icon Designer distribution diskette from drive [f0] and save it as an archive.
Note: Refer to the Raster Font and Icon Designer Manual for information on how to use this product.}
{4.4	StandAlone Floppy Disk Systems
The Raster Font and Icon Designer is not supported on standalone floppy disk systems.}
{5.0	Required Files
After successful installation of Raster Font and Icon Designer, the following files from [f0]<CT> of the installation diskette will reside on your hard disk on [Sys]<Sys>.

{11.0	Documentation Updates
The Raster Font and Icon Designer functions plus the utilities are described in the Raster Font and Icon Designer Manual.} The following describes new features added in this release.
A.	There are now 2 flags at the bottom of the edit area to accomodate the advanced width of variable width fonts. The left most flag is used to determine where the advanced width of the character starts and the right most flag is used to determine where the advanced width ends. Any bits set outside of these flags are significant and will be part of the character. The width between the flags is called the advanced width and is what is used by font display routines to place the characters on a line. An example of a character whose advanced width is smaller than the bitmap is a j in an italic font; the decender appears under the character preceeding it.

B.	On Copy and Move where selections of an area are specified, the selected area is identified by a fine mesh over the edit area. This fine mesh disappears after the copy or move or the command is cancelled.
