Gopher vs. HTTP (The Web)

Hierarchy vs. Hypertext: 
Gopher is hierarchical and menu-driven, whereas HTTP 
is a web of linked hypertext documents.

Simplicity: 
Gopher's protocol requires very little overhead, making 
it incredibly fast and efficient for text browsing,
but it lacks the rich multimedia capabilities of HTTP.
