New features in this release - The version 1.12 agent feature set is a compatible superset of that provided by all previous versions of this agent. This agent fixes faults as described in section 4 below. It provides support for the following SuperStack 3 4300 series products: SuperStack 3 Switch 4300 3C17100 SuperStack 3 Switch 4300 100Base-FX Single Port Module 3C17111 SuperStack 3 Switch 4300 100Base-FX Dual Port Module 3C17112 SuperStack 3 Switch 4300 1000Base-T Single Port Module 3C17121 SuperStack 3 Switch 4300 1000Base-T Dual Port Module 3C17122 SuperStack 3 Switch 4300 1000Base-SX Single Port Module 3C17131 SuperStack 3 Switch 4300 1000Base-SX Dual Port Module 3C17132 SuperStack 3 Switch 4300 1000Base-LX Single Port Module 3C17141 ________________________________________________________________________________ 3. Information about other 3Com products affected None ________________________________________________________________________________ 4. Enhancements and fixes for known faults - The default STP cost values have changed to be consistant with other 3Com SuperStack 3 products. The new default STP cost values are Link Speed/Duplex Port Cost 10Half 100 10Full 95 10meg Trunk 90 100Half 19 100Full 18 100meg Trunk 15 1000Full 4 1000meg Trunk 3 For reference, the old default STP cost values are Link Speed Port Cost 10 100 100 19 1000 4 - Previously the unit could only be accessed via the console port using a fully connected null modem cable. This has been changed so that the unit can also now be accessed via console port using a three pin connected (3-RxD, 2-TxD, 7-Ground) null modem cable. - The web interface statistics display for a range of ports displayed incorrect statistics for the received/transmit row. This has now been fixed. - When a full duplex link aggregation is configured containing ports at 100M full duplex, the web interface command 'bridge/link aggregation/summary erronously displayed the ports as half duplex. This has now been fixed to display the correct duplex mode. - When one of the default RMON alarm table entries is removed using direct SNMP, it was seen that no more table entries could be created. This has now been fixed. Please note that RMON alarm table entries can't be added/removed using web interface or command line interface. - When a units console port is configured to autobaud mode, it was seen that after a reboot the unit would display the login prompt before it had detected the speed of the terminal. This resulted in the first one or two characters entered by the user as login name being used to detect the speed and are not used as the login name. This has now been fixed so that when the console is configured to autobaud mode, after a reboot the login prompt will not be displayed until the terminal user enters one or two of characters. - Previously the unit could be managed from any VLAN. This has been changed so that the unit can only be managed from the default VLAN (VLAN 1). This has been done to allow 4300 units to conform to other superstack family switches. - The MIB object dot1dBridge/dot1dTp/dot1dTpAgingTime (1.3.6.1.2.17.4.2) couldn't be set to 0 using direct SNMP. This has now been fixed. - Certain IP addresses containing a zero '.0' could not be configured as the the trap destination IP address. This has now been fixed so that all valid IP addresses can be used as trap destination address. ________________________________________________________________________________ 5. Recommendations when using this release Points to Note when using the SuperStack 3 Switch 4300 CD-ROM - When using the setup.exe that displays the splash screen on the CD-ROM you may experience a problem if you have an early version of virus checker installed on your PC. If you experience this problem the following error is displayed when the setup.exe is activated: Application Error Exception EResNotFound in Module 0DSCD.EXE at 0016:0B37 Resource TMainForm not found. You can either: - Turn off your virus checking software whilst using the CD-ROM. or - Upgrade your virus checking software to the latest version. Serial Cable - When using a serial cable you must ensure that it is wired correctly as described in Appendix B of the Getting Started Guide. Web Browser - If you use Netscape to manage your Switch you may experience problems when trying to change the user password. 3Com recommends that if you use Netscape and you need to change the password you do so via the CLI. To do this, from the Web Interface's Device View, use the System > Telnet > Connect operation to start a Telnet connection and then use the security device user modify CLI command. - If you are using an early version of either Internet Explorer 5.0 or Netscape 4.0 to access the Web Interface, some of the screens may not appear to update once the information has been changed. If this happens, you might need to adjust the cache settings on your browser to solve this. For Internet Explorer 5.0, select from the tool bar: Tools Menu > Internet Options > Temporary Internet Files > Settings > Every Visit to the Page. Click OK twice. For Netscape 4.0, select from the tool bar: Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Cache > Everytime. Click OK. - The SuperStack 3 Switch 4300 Web Interface does not support Netscape Navigator version 6 or any browser running on a Sun Solaris workstation. The Command Line Interface - The bridge > multicast > routerport > addport command has been modified in the CLI. When you add a router port to the Switch, it must be added to each VLAN separately. - The physicalinteface > ethernet > portcapabilities command has been removed from the CLI and is no longer supported. ________________________________________________________________________________ 6. Known problems with this release - If a port is a member of an untagged VLAN, you might want to change the ports status from untagged to tagged. If so, you must move the port to a different VLAN that receives all untagged traffic, make the change and then make the port a tagged member of the original VLAN. To do this: 1. Move the port to a different VLAN that receives all untagged traffic. To do this: A. Enter the CLI command bridge vlan modify addPort. B. Type the VLAN ID that you want to move the port into and press Return. C. Type the port number to be moved and press Return. D. Enter untagged for the Tag Type and press Return. 2. Make the port a tagged member of the original VLAN. To do this: A. Enter the CLI command bridge vlan modify addPort. B. Type the original VLAN ID and press Return. C. Type the port number and press Return. D. Enter tagged for the Tag Type and press Return. - When doing a TFTP upgrade from firmware v1.01, using the server application 3CServer, the message 'No more retries: Aborting' is returned by 3CServer when the file transfer is successful. This is now fixed so that when doing a TFTP upgrade from any firmware other than firmware v1.01, 3CServer will return the message 'TFTP Successful' following a successful file transfer. - Auto-MDIX mode is not available if auto-negotiation is disabled on a port. That port will only operate in MDI mode. - When you place a port in an Aggregated Link, the Flow Control command is always enabled. - When a port is a member of an Aggregated Link, the port is visible in the Bridge menus but cannot be configured. - Downgrading the firmware to version 1.01 results in some configuration being deleted. 3Com recommends that you manually initialize the unit to factory defaults after a downgrade to 1.01. When downgrading to any other firmware versions, units will be automatically initialized to factory defaults. Note that all configuration will remain intact when upgrading the firmware version. - The unit can only be managed via console port using three pin connected (3-RxD, 2-TxD, 7-Ground) null modem cable using firmware version 1.12 and later. Downgrading the firmware to an earlier version will result in not being able to managed the unit using a three pin connected null modem cable. - Downgrading the firmware to version 1.10 or earlier could result in the Serial Number being displayed incorrectly by the web interface and command line interface. ________________________________________________________________________________ 7.
