# What Is Discordian Watchdog Today's society has many threats. One of the most dangerous and insidious of all modern threats is one that the mainstream knows almost nothing about. The modern Discordian movement is associated with a wide variety of subcultures that each work in their own way to undermine the values held so high by so many. It is influenced by anarchists, drug users, the occult, sexual deviants, computer hackers and self-proclaimed "cultural terrorists." Discordianism hails itself as, "Either a complicated joke disguised as a religion or a complicated joke disguised as a religion." Discordianism surrounds itself with absurdism so as to not be taken seriously by those who approach it. A simple Yahoo! search for "Discordianism" will result in a small host of homepages that seem to be little more than nonsense. Don't be fooled by such a superficial result, however, because the internal network of Discordians is massive. Its outer verneer of foolishness works so well that while it is one of the largest of cults in existance, it is not even listed as a cult by any of the major cult-watching organizations, leaving their activities unchecked. Discordianism is very decentralized, with many small cells acting independantly of each other. New recruits are encouraged to form their own cells rather than join others, but they often join forces for various projects. They participate collectively in something known as, "Operation Mindf**k" in an effort to erode all forms of authority and order. It is no surprise that their high saint is a cockroach. This site is dedicated to exposing Discordianism for the menace that it is. We have broken down many of its individual facets into seperate articles so you can see how multi-sided the threat is and gain a better understanding of what their agenda is. We also have a "Watchdog" section where we do our best, with your help, to expose Discordian activities. We hope you take the time to read some of the articles and join the action committee to keep updated on breaking news and developments. Together, with the force and light of attention, we can expose and exterminate this growing threat. ## Discordianism's Origins Discordianism reared it's ugly head in the late 50's. It's cofounders, Greg Hill and Kerry Thornley were a couple of deviants who decided to try and commit the all-time great hoax; creating a 'religion' that would undermine and erode the values and structure of western civilization, without ever being taken seriously enough to be stopped. They began by writing the Principia Discordia, the Discordian Bible (which was first titled "How the West was Lost") and disseminating it throughout various counter-culture communities. They created a variety of lies about what it was and who wrote it, attempting to fuel rumors and stir people's curiosity. By 1970 the Principia had gone from total obscurity to 'legitimate' cult status. It was then quoted often in the novel 'Illuminatus!' by Robert Shea and Robert Anton Wilson which was published in the mid 70's. Discordian cells, calling themselves 'cabals' began springing up all over. And the inner core, who had been establishing itself and it's agenda over the previous 10 years finally had its huge pool of resources to work with. From the begining, Discordians have done their best to get people in or close to important offices. Thornley was a close friend of Lee Harvey Oswald and a member of a covert Marxist organization in the Marines. After the Kennedy assasination District Attorny Jim Garrison discovered conclusive evidence that linked Thornley to the assasination, yet he was never charged. Ironically,(?) the first copies of the Principia Discordia were printed off on Garrison's photocopier at the D.A.'s office by an assistant of Garrison's. And so it has grown, surrounded by lies, crime and trechery every step of the way. ## Cultural Threats ### Anarchist Influence Discordianism's prime directive is to undermine all forms of authority. Consequently many Discordians consider themselves to be some form of anarchist. Anarchism is a socio-political philosophy promoting free-for-all, self-serving behavior. It is the lowest form of political and social ignorance. Even counter-cultural icons such as Naom Chomski have acknowledged the evidence showing the tendancies of anarchists towards criminal behavior. Many terrorists have been anarchists. Despite the evidence, these people see themselves as revolutionaries, actively trying to destroy the state - not to create something better, but out of spite. Anarchy, on the whole, doesn't get very far because of its inherent 'non-cooperative' attitude, but Discordianism focuses on resistance to authority, which is more immediately available than any collective self-servitude. Most anarchists are limited to acts of vandalism, but Discordianism gives anrchists many more outlets, ranging from social to occult. The threat is compounded when anarchists get the cooperation of hackers (which is another Discordian targeted demographic) Most Discordian strikes are based on Von Neumans approach to game theory - meaning they are random acts, not directly related to any larger goal. This approach makes it theoretically impossible to predict where and how they will strike next. While the targets may be random, the acts themselves are usualy ritualistic enactments, (done to show how clever they are - this method of structuring attacks is also common in serial killers and other psychopaths) The Discordian Society pulls this distructive political ideology into its fold and feeds off it, establishing an active element for their haenous acts. ### Hacker Danger One of the areas where Discordians are heavily concentrated and recruit with vigor is the computer industry. With computer technology becoming such an integral part of our society the Discordian presence becomes even more dangerous. Tech professionals have skills that can perplex the average person. And it's not too hard to find and play on the emotions of those professionals who feel as though they are smarter than the average person. In this way Discordians court those in the tech field. Discordians use technology to perpetuate their agenda in many ways. They use the internet to sow their disinormation to would-be members. They have operatives plants bugs and hack programs to disrupt the organizations that use them. They recruit to ensure that they have a large knowledge base to work with and they let the activists direct their actions. It should be noted that this type of activity occurs most when the economy is good and unemployment is low. When jobs become easy to find many tech people don't mind playing sleeper agent for a bit while they gain on-the-job training. They then perpetrate their crimes and simply move on if they get fired. In doing so they undermine the system the most when it is benefitting the most people. The more Discordians use technology to spread their message of anti-authority and anti-structure, the more they tend to pick up technology professionals. It becomes imperitive in the struggle against them that the average person becomes more informed about the treat of these self-proclaimed 'hactivists.' ## Spiritual Threats ### Religious Threat The prime-directive of Discordianism is to resist authority. It follows then that the authority of a higher power and religion in general is to be undermined. The undermining of religion is in fact one of Discordianism's main objectives. Discordians see those who follow any particular religion as sheeps; people who mindlessly adhere to rules out of fear and self-delusion. They see it as their duty to disrupt the faith of others using any method necessary. Only when a person's faith is broken and hope is lost are they considered 'liberated.' The irony here is that they follow the rules of their own religion to a high degree. They claim, however, that they are simply 'role-playing' and not really adhering to the dogma of their own system, but the fact remains that they commit the actions required, no matter how they rationalize it. Discordianism stems from the most diabolical form of Bhuddhism. Any religion can be distorted to fit the purposes of deviant practicioners, and whithin Buddhism there exists a radical zen tradition. This tradition has manifested in western civilization as Discordiansim. The goal in this tradition is to become you own god, and the undermining of established religion becomes mandatory. It follows that they preach a 'relativistic' morality. Any action, no matter how deviant, becomes ok if it's in the right 'context.' It also follows that they have the justification to perform any hainous act that perpetuates their own agenda, because the context is right... ## Community Watchdog Section Name : Eva Geblumenkraft Location : Detroit, MI Date : 3-21-02 Report : We've had someone around here who has been replacing the tape in some of the videotapes in our library with porn. This menace is a shadowy, formless anarchoterrorist cult known as Discordianism. This cult contaminates the information superhighway and its tentacles reach everywhere. Below are some facts about this organization, its methods and motives. FACT: One of the founders of Discordianism was involved in the Kennedy assassination. Discordianism was cofounded by Kerry Thornley. Thornley was a close friend of Lee Harvey Oswald and was involved in a covert Marxist group in the Marines. After the assassination of President Kennedy, District Attorney Jim Garrison uncovered evidence conclusively linking Thornley to the conspiracy. FACT: Discordianism preaches drug use, terrorism, sexual depravity, and the overthrow of all governments. The Discordian "Bible", the Principia Discordia, contains incitements to plant marijuana and disobey laws and advocacy of pornography and blasphemy. Other materials are even more explicit and extreme. THESE MATERIALS ARE DISTRIBUTED WIDELY BY THE MEMBERS OF THIS CULT. Discordians are prominent in drug advocate, anarchist, communist and militia movements. They will be found in any movement which opposes and hastens the destruction of society. It is clear that the Discordians have no respect for the values of society which they seek to destroy. And if society does not see the threat and react to it swiftly they may succeed. FACT: Discordians are entrenched on the Internet and use it to disseminate their propaganda. Discordianism is a cancer which has spread widely all over the Information Superhighway. There are Discordian Netscape pages advocating sexual perversion, anarchism and drug abuse. There are even newsgroups created and run by Discordian agents. The Net, which is decentralized and hard to police, is a perfect haven for these rats. WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE: CONTACT YOUR LOCAL OFFICIALS Write to your local Congressman and demand they do something about this terrible scourge upon society, talk to your Minister about the threat and see what he can do. How can we ever defeat our enemies abroad if we allow them to dwell among us! PRESSURE ONLINE SERVICES TO SHUT DOWN KNOWN DISCORDIAN SITES. There are web pages all over the net run by Discordian cells, disseminating their poisonous propaganda to children. Some of these are at universities, some at commercial service providers. Letters and phone calls to the sites, describing the material and explaining why it is unacceptable would get it pulled. If the site refuses to comply, it may be sympathetic to or controlled by the Discordian group. If that is so, contact the site which provides it access and complain. EDUCATE OTHERS ABOUT THE MENACE Copy and spread this alert. Transmit it to others. Tell others about the menace and the very real threat of Discordianism. The more people know, the fewer will be seduced by their lies. PROTECT YOUR CHILDREN If your children have access to the net, monitor what they access. Do not allow them to access Discordian materials. If they have been contacted by agents of Discordianism, determine these agents' identities and call the police. ACT LOCALLY Keep your eyes open -- the Discordians could be where you are! Look around you. If you notice Discordian activity, in your community, your workplace, your online service or elsewhere, keep an eye on it and alert others. Report any illegal activity to law enforcement authorities. Only you can stop this threat! DISSEMINATE THIS ALERT WIDELY. SEND COPIES TO ALL CONCERNED CITIZENS. IT'S UP TO YOU! ACT NOW! But as the lights dimmed, they got a shock they never bargained for: The sexually explicit preview of an xxx-rated movie. Sharie Perrillo, her husband and two children went to Friday's 12:30 p.m. showing of the PG-rated "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" at the Norton General Cinema in downtown Seattle. They were unsettled by the R-rated movie previews that began airing. But nothing prepared them for when, instead of Harry and his wizard buddies, they saw two full minutes of pornographic footage that had apparently been spliced into the trailer reel. The scene was a teenage girl in bed with a vibrator. "There was a flash on the screen that said, 'Eris Incantations' then that girl in her bed." said Sharie Perrillo, of West Seattle. "After that I was out of the movie theater with my kids." Perrillo quickly ushered her children out of the theater. She said the crowd of mostly parents and children followed. An employee was notified, and theater-goers were asked to wait while the trailer reel was removed and the feature movie was put in place. The Perrillos and others settled back in to enjoy the tamer wonders of "Harry Potter" and were given free movie passes for their trouble. A theater employee who did not want to be named said, "This is really wierd. There's no way someone could pull off a prank like this." But Perrillo said the damage was already done. When the family got home, her 9-year-old daughter kept asking questions about what she had seen. "I just don't know what to answer," said Perrillo. "I don't want her to lose that innocence that she has the right to have." "I can't understand how something like that can happen," said Perrillo, adding that she will not return to the theaters. ### Target Stores Sabatoged For Easter - Thursday April 23, 6:29 pm Eastern Time MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Target Corp. [NYSE:TGT - news]was sabotaged over Easter weekend, according to Vice President Morris Codwell, costing the Superstore several thousands of dollars in damages. "Both the local authorities in several different cities and the F.B.I. are looking into the incident," says Codwell. Sometime early Saturday morning, the assailants left several plastic Easter eggs lying around conspicuously in the stores. Some of the eggs contained cryptic messages, such as "We are watching you" and "Hail Eris," but others contained barcode stickers, with instructions to place them over regular merchandise barcodes to receive a 'special Easter savings.' When the barcodes where subsequently scanned the cash registers were rendered inoperable. "Somebody had to know enough about our registers to know how to break them," Codwell says. "This was a very well-planned and deliberate attack." F.B.I. agent Roland Serling says that they believe the act was committed by a group of anarchists who call themselves "Discordians." According to Serling, "They claim to worship Eris Discordia, the goddess of chaos." When asked about the customers who put the stickers on the merchandise Codwell said that the average customer could hardly be blamed for participating in what they thought was a legitimate store promotion however "misguided" their actions were. In all, 23 stores in 10 states were hit with a total of 42 registers being broken and at least 9 databases being corrupted. "The most aggravating part of this whole thing," said Codwell "is that they appear to have used the Easter eggs that we sell in the stores to perpetrate their crimes." ### 'Honest, Mom, I Don't Even Know What Those (@)#$%& Words Mean' - The Wall Street Journal Interactive Edition -- June 17, 2001 - By ROBERT WIZNIK - Staff Reporter of THE WALL STREET JOURNAL Computers are revolutionizing education, sometimes in surprising ways. Now there's software that can teach kids how to cuss like a drunken sailor. The program, called "Secret Writer's Society," is meant to help seven to nine-year-olds learn to write by, among other things, reciting their compositions back to them in a computer-generated voice. But a strange bug sometimes causes the program to do some creative rewriting and vocalize streams of obscenities and heresies before reciting the child's own words. One parent who tested the program for StarKids, an educational-software review Web site (http://www.starkids.com/), describes the foul language as the sort heard in a "slasher flick." Another says "It's like something from some devil movie." Kari Stibbs, a marketing manager for Matsushita Inc.'s Panasonic Interactive Media, which makes the product, acknowledges the cursing problem, and says they're working on extracting the bug. "We've had several reports of it at this point." she says. "The person believed responsible for it has been let go. He was involved with a neferious group of people known as 'Discordians' who consider themselves cultural revolutionaries or some such nonsense." Andrew Siamel, StarKids editor in chief, said the bug has wreaked havoc with their public relations. "Many parents get plenty upset about propaganda telling 7 and 8 year olds that 'God's name is Eris, and he's a girl.' and the profanity's even worse, I wouldn't want a 15-year-old exposed to some of the language this thing has." "It's a bad thing if some child is sitting at the computer and all of a sudden it starts swearing at you," Ms. Stibbs concedes. When alerted by StarKids, Panasonic promised to replace flawed copies of the program with debugged versions. But Mr. Siamel thinks the company should recall the product and publicize its flaws to protect kids where it might still be in use. Ms. Stibbs says copies of the program that haven't been shipped "will be pulled," but that there's "no way to contact every person who's purchased it." Still, the company says it will set up an 800 number so that consumers with the flawed version can request a free, nonprofane replacement. Copyright © 2001 Dow Jones & Company, Inc. The man's success at gaining access to Bush startled Secret Service agents and U.S. Capitol Police officers because security was intensified in preparation for large groups of protesters. Capitol Police refused to give details except to say that the trespasser was unarmed and had been taken through a metal detector. "There was an individual who had an unscheduled handshake with the President," Lt. Dan Nichols, a spokesman for the Capitol Police, said Tuesday night. "It was noticed immediately and he was removed." The Washington Post, which first reported the incident in its Wednesday editions, said the man had a standing-room ticket for Saturday's swearing-in ceremony but somehow made it into the VIP section and into the Capitol. The man who shook Bush's hand, was the same man who bypassed security after Clinton's inauguration in 1997, a police official said. Nichols said the incident will be considered during a review of security that occurs after every inauguration. The man was never under arrest. "He did not break any laws and therefore, there was no basis to arrest him," Nichols said. "There is no law against shaking the president's hand." The trespasser's exploits during the Clinton inauguration had not been forgotten by those planning security for Bush. Sources revealed that the man is a member of a loose organization known as 'Discordians' who seem bent on committing disruptive acts that don't technically break any law. He was a constant subject of discussion by security officials before Bush's inauguration, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity. Secret Service officials even showed a videotape of the man shaking Clinton's hand to those handling security on Inauguration Day, the official said. The tape shows the trespasser approaching someone who had clearance to be near Clinton. The trespasser struck up a conversation with the cleared individual and shadowed him as he walked past a security checkpoint.
