All this walkthrough is meant to be is a walkthrough for the game Far Cry. If you would like weapons information, character profiles and such then you are SOL (if you know what that means). If you must have all of that information then please check out the other FAQ for this game instead of sending me e-mails about how I should be shoveling human waste as a full-time job. Now... start walking... |_________________________________TABLE OF___________________________________| |----------------------------------------CONTENTS----------------------------| You can easily access any of the parts in the walkthrough; all you have to do is highlight the search code for the section copy it, open the Find function in your browser and enter it in. Or you could just highight, press CTRL+C, CTRL+F, CTRL+V, ENTER. That should immediately take you to the desired section. The main walkthrough is divided into separate parts to help you find your place more easily. Just refer to the listing above and find the place that you are at in the game. Then copy the code next to it and paste it into the search function (CTRL+F). After you press ENTER or click on "Find Next" you will be taken to the appropriate section of the walkthrough. 01) Training 02) Carrier 03) Fort 04) Pier 05) Research 06) Treehouse 07) Bunker 08) Steam 09) Regulator 10) Control 11) Rebellion 12) Archive 13) Cooler 14) Boat 15) Catacombs 16) River 17) Swamp 18) Factory 19) Dam 20) Volcano ============================================================================== ============================================================================== 01) Training This is fairly linear until you get out into the open so you won't get lost, you'll find it very intuitive where you have to go. This section is just for acclimating you to the controls. You'll find out how to crouch, crawl, climb ladders, walk around, go up stairs, and erm... you'll get a gun too. After the opening cinematic and when you get control of Jack for the first time go forward through the sewer and head for the stairs in the southeast. Follow the corridor until you get to a door that has a hole in it. Crouch and edge your way through it. In the next room you'll see a hole in the wall that leads to a new room, jump up through it and enter the room. When you jump through you'll have to move to the right and crawl under a fallen support beam. Now look to the right and go up the ladder. Run through the room ahead and you will get a cutscene with Crow and some guard. When the scene resumes move to the wall on the left side of the room and head into the water, make sure you are crouched or else you run a good chance of being spotted. Swim through the water and enter the room on the other side. In this room there will be another cutscene and you will meet Doyle for the first time. When the scen is over grab the pistol on the table, the ammo on the shelves, the grenade on the table by the stairs, and the body armor on the crate by the door that leads to the next room. You can also play around with the physics system in the game if you like by tipping over the shelves and rolling the barrels down the stairs. Now head out the other door and you will be outside for the first time. Immediately turn to the left and follow as close as possible to the embankment that marks the edge of the level. Move slowly, don't run since that will get you spotted right away. Anyways, move towards the first hut and enter it to find some pistol ammo. Check to make sure that you have a full clip of ammo and if you don't reload your pistol. Outside the hut you will probably hear some excitement since one of the mercenaries has probbaly spotted you by now. Go back towards the door you came in and lean out. Usually there are three mercenaries immediately visible from here so shoot all three of them as they approach and then carefully check around to see if you can take out any more before moving away from your cover. For kicks you can shoot the yellow container on the dock and blow it up. If you search all the rest of the huts there will be one more mercenary (he'll be in or close to the hut by the dock) and you'll also find more pistol ammo and an M4 assault rifle. Run around and pick up all the ammo dropped by your foes and then head up to the hut on top of the hill. Grab the binoculars and whip them out. Scan enemy base and the whole island that you can see out to other side of the hut and spot the two enemie sin the guard towers. Unequip your binoculars and lie down with your M4 out. Carefully take aim and release a few bursts to take out the guards in the two towers. You should fire three bullets maximum (in one burst) because at this distance the recoil makes you doubly innaccurate. When the two guards have been taken down cross the water and go up the little incline. Go up to the tower that is to the right side of the enemy base. Climb up and take out your binoculars. Scan the enemy base for the five mercenaries that should be left inside. For added foresight you can scan the beaches ahead and look for places where you will have to get past a few bunches of mercenaries. Also, while you are up here you will see a helicopter take off and fly around. Do not shoot at it. Just let it fly away over the next hill. Now climb back down and retrace back to where you came out of the water. Lie down on the ground with your M4 and look for the enemy mercenaries in the base here. Quickly find a group of two mercenaries and take them out with a burst of well aimed fire. Now head into the base quickly and take out the three enemies that are in the rough proximity of the center of the base (where the vehicle is). Make sure that none of them hit the alarm buttons because if they do you'll have to deal with about 5 more enemies and at the moment you are shorthanded on ammo. You will want to avoid that. When you have successfully eliminated all the enemies in the area head for the hut that is at the base of the guard tower. Grab the keycard off of the table and head for the hut that is labeled as "Armory", it is to the South of the hut with the keycard. Find the gate and open it and you'll pick up one grenade and a hundred or so rounds of M4 ammo. There is also an armor pickup by the door. Grab it and you will have full armor. If you need some health then you can pick some up in just about any of the buildings here. Now head for the Buggy. Climb in and drive down the road. As you drive you will see a mercenary standing on the road. Slow down and shoot him. Now go over the next ridge past a save point and you will see a hut on a beach. Ignore it for now and look for a HumVee that should be heading your way. Shoot the gunner and the driver when you get an open shot and then climb into the HumVee. Equip the rocket launcher and fire off a few shots at the hut and at the mercenaries standing in front of it. Now drive to the hut and grab any ammo that was dropped along with an armor pickup if you need it. Be aware that there may be one more mercenary hiding in the trees to the side of the hut. Now climb back into the HumVee. Head along the road with your HumVee's turret set to the missile launcher. When you see the HumVee atop the hill with some mercenaries beside it blast it to itty bitty pieces with your rocket. Now head over the next ridge that is around the corner and shoot the buggy that is at the bottom of the hill. Stay atop the hill and look for a HumVee racing along the beach. Take aim and fire at it. If you miss then just wait and relaod, you will probably have hit close neough to it to knock the occupants out of whack long enough to get in another clean shot. When the HumVee has been destroyed then race along the beach quickly because there is a boat offshore that is launching missiles right at your position. Don't try to engage the boat because it will hit you before you can hit it. Now keep pushing along the road. When you see a crashed airplane up ahead go to the right of it. Shoot the two mercenaries on the top of the hill and then drive your HumVee right over the edge and into the water. Get away from it before you swim towards the carrier (it will blow up). Stay undewater and swim to the hole in the left side of the ship. This will keep you out of the enemy's view. When you enter the hole the level will end. ============================================================================== ============================================================================== 02) Carrier When the level starts off immediately plunge into the water and swim through the only available route. Climb up the ladder. When you reach the doorway lean out and face to the left side. Shoot the mercenary patrolling there and then head into the room down the hallway (to the left). Shoot the mercenary standing by the door and the technician that comes out from behind some equipment. Head out of the room through the next door and enter the room to the right. Grab the smoke grenades off of the table and the flashlight. Head up the stairs, not through the door on the bottom level. Look for a vent shaft entrance here in this next room. Crawl into it and go to the very end of it. There are three mewrcenaries in this next room that you can take out quickly by staying atop the catwalk. Just stay crouched and wait for them to go into the open. It is pretty hard to get hit in this room. These guards will be using P90s so you will get a new weapon to unleash upon your foes once you pick it up. Now head up the ramp on the east side of the room and enter the next available doorway. Look to the right and you will see two mercenaries there. Quickly shoot both of them before either of them can react and pull the alarm. Gather their ammo and go through the next doorway. You'll most likely hear an enemy transmission after you pass through the doorway. If you do then head to the top of the stairs by the vent shaft entrance and and lie down with your M4 and face the door you just came out of. In about 10 seconds you will see an enemy pop out from there followed closely by another one. Shoot the first one before he can react and then watch for the second one to come out. When they are both dead head up the ladder. At the top of the ladder look to the left and in the next room you will see one enemy slowly moving to the side. Shoot him and then face the doorway in that room to shoot two more mercenaries that come out of it. Gather the ammo and then look for the ramp to the upper level. Grab the body armor when you see it in the next room. Head back down to where the three mercenaries are lying on the ground. If you are an observant one you will notice that any bullet that strikes the wall on the east side of this room will create a hole in the wall and sunlight will stream through it. If you are exceptionally bored or have nothing at all better to do then you may create designs and words in the wall that will light up in a most delightful manner. Getting back to the topic at hand... the hallway beyond the door will yield an empty passage. When you reach the intersection lean out and shoot the mercenary at the end of the corridor. Grab the health pack from the cabinet in the room to your immediate left and some ammo from either room at the end of the hall. Head out onto the deck. Slowly edge your way up and lock your sights onto the mercenaries standing opposite the stairs you are approaching. Now move slowly down the stairs and look for a mercenary manning a machine gun at the far end of the ship. Shoot him quickly because he is going to unload a can of whoop-ass on you with his mounted machine-gun. When the machine gunner mercenary is down and out move down the stairs further and scan the area to the right and shoot any mercenary that comes into view. When you reach the bottom of the stairs you will want to wait a little bit to see if anybody appears. If not then stick as close as possible to the overhanged area and peek around the next corner. You know what to do here if there is a mercenary ready to unload on you. There will also be an enemy on the upper levels of the ship right here so take care of him with your M4. He will be somewhere in the approximate center of the visible upper levels. Now head for the stairs that are on the other side of the ship. When you reach the foot of the stairs turn around and look up. Move backwards until you can see a mercenary standing atop a small platform. Shoot him and move up the ladder. Run around the turn and shoot the mercenary in your way here. Move in through the doorway ahead and you will hear a mercenary speaking to one of his superior officers over a adio. Enter the room on your right and shoot the merceanry. There will be a cutscene. Grab the health and ammo on the table here to fully load yourself up. Go back into the corridor and follow it until you reach a door. Open it and shoot the two mercenaries behind the overturned tables. Now head up the ladder and grab any health or armor that you need. Now there are two ways to do this next part. You can either take the easy way out or the hard way. The easy way involves much less shooting while the hard way involves you pulling a Rambo. ---- Easy ---- Sprint up the ladder and when you get to the top of the ladder unload on the helicopter's gunner as you head straight for the edge of the ship... Fall into the water and then swim along the side of the ship until you reach the sandbar that the ship is perched on. Take cover from the gunners above by crawling under an outcropping of metal and look for the boat that is hanging from some chains on the side of the ship. Shoot the chains to release the boat and when it falls to the water climb in and head away from the ship at full speed. ---- Hard ---- When you climb up the ladder shoot the gunner in the machine-gun nest of the helicopter. Don't bother with it once the gunner is out. Now make sure that you are situated so that you are shielded from gunfire coming from the west. Look to the northeast and peek around the boxes so that you can shoot two mercenaries hiding in that direction. Now look north and atop the boxes. You should see a machine-gunner there, quickly shoot him before he can do any more damage to you or before he starts shooting at you, whichever applies. Now head back into the hole in the deck you just came out of and restock on health and armor. Climb back out and look to the west. There will be a large group of mercenaries in that direction hiding behind boxes and shooting at you and whatnot. Lie down on the ground between some boxes and slowly pick them off with your M4 as they reveal themselves. You will have to move several times to avoid gunfire or to get a better vantage point. Eventually you will have to move up to the boxes where they were and then start working on the trio of mercenaries that is hiding across the wooden plank bridges. Do the same here and then cross to where the boat is hanging. Shoot the chains and hop into the water after it. Now race away to the direction east is indicated as on your compass. ============================================================================== ============================================================================== 03) Fort There are two ways to do this level, a long way and a somewhat shorter way. Long will be first. ---- Long ---- Head roughly east until you pass two small islands in the water and then head roughly south. You want to get to the second main beach that you come across on this island. When you have the beach in your sights you will want to approach it quickly. As you approach (get close to it) slow down and shoot at least two of the mercenaries on the beach, preferably the one closest to the water and the one by the buggy. Hop out and shoot the last three mercenaries on shore by utilizing the cover provided by the bushes and the rock on the beach. Now hop into the buggy and drive up the hill following the road. Drive until hit an intersection. When that happens hop out and crouch and proceed forward. There will be about half a dozen mercenaries around the stairs and on them, take out the ones closest to you first and then work your way up. When the ones at the base of the stairs are taken care of move up the stairs and get onto the turret to the left. Turn towards the next set of stairs and spot the yellow barrels at the platform there. Shoot them to kill a mercenary. Move up those stairs and the set immediately following it. Run along the path that goes to the left and enter the building. Grab the grenades and ound the corners until you see two mercenaries at the top of some stairs. Take aim at the yellow cylinder to the right and shoot it. It will kill the both of them and draw out another. Shoot him and then head up the stairs. Head down the hallway and if you need a healthpack then duck into the small room to the left and take the health pack. Go out the door at the end of the hallway and immediately go down the stairs to the left of the open doorway. The guards should have been alerted to yur presence as you came in so wait at the bottom and pick them off as the come through the opening in the wall. When they are dead move out and then shoot two more that are on the stairway beyond the door. Now pick up all the ammo left behind and head up the srairs and look for the elevator at the end of the hallway. Get on and go up. Head outside and go to the right. Pick up this walkthrough again at the *** marking. ----- Short ----- Head roughly southwest. When you round the edge of the little peninsula (the one without any beaches) keep moving in a southward direction. When you see the patrol boat moving in the distance, move as far away as possible while keeping your current heading. Look for a small beach to the left. When you spot it land and run up the path. Head through the jungle (there is only one way to go) and stop when you can see the stairs. Move along the path that goes to the right. Shoot the two mercenaries atop the stone turret and then look up the hill and shoot all the mercs within your view. Head up the path. *** As you approach this structure there will be two mercenaries talking on the top of the platform. Shoot them when you are within good range. Head up the stairs and watch out for any enemies approaching you. There will be about 6 or 7 enemies in total until you reach the next savepoint so keep count. When all the enemies are down head for the door that is to the east. After Doyle tells you the situation head down the nearest set of stairs and duck into the tunnel. Wait here until the door opens. When it opens rush inside and ignore the enemies and helicopters around you. The door will shut behind you and cut off anything they wish to fling in your direction. Head into the control center and when the cinematic is over shoot the commander and grab the security card off of his desk. Head into the little side room and insert the card into the slot. Grab the explosives then head back out to the hallway and find the generator to the left. Plant the explosives and then sprint out of the building to finish the level. ============================================================================== ============================================================================== 04) Pier When you start off use one of your automatic weapons to shoot three enemies that re hanging out around the barrels. It will be much easier for you is you take them out from afar, try closer to your starting point, but I'll leave it up to you whether to go the up-front approach or hang-back approach. There is still one more enemy lurking around. Move to the lip of the hill and look down into the bushes. You'll see him moving about below you. Pick him off. This is alos a good place to try out the physics of the game. Try pushing a few things down the hill and watch them bounce around. Doyle will address you and point out the fact that there may be a hang glider for you to use. You don't have to look far. There is one right at the edge of the cliff to your right. Go up to it and push the use key to get on and cast off. Don't turn to the left and steer yourself down the canyon. Instead make a slight right and loop yourself around and try to land on the small depression in the cliff that was opposite where the glider was resting. If you land it right you should be able to pick the glider up and cast off again but if not then restart the level. This approach will conserve your ammunition since you won't be alerting your enemies by flying right through their patrol routes. This will take you off to the side. Glide down as far as you can into the flat area below. If you land right near a path then you did the best job you could have. If you don't kand near a path don't worry about it. You will just have to walk a little further. When you land a helicopter may fly over your position use your M4 to shoot the gunners in the helicopter. If you feel the need then you can shoot the helicopter down completely it should take about 4 well placed clips of ammunition, at least. I suggest that you refrain from this act since it will be wasteful for you to do this. After the helicopter either crashes or flies away head up the hill along the path. When you reach the first crest of the hill (you'll also see an intersection where another path starts/ends) look slightly up the hill and you will see two mercs atop a small turret. Shoot them from afar before they are alerted to your presence and can get to the mounted machine-gun on the turret. Pick up their ammo and proceed onwards up the hill. When you reach the next crest of the hill you will see a guard tower up ahead. Using your binoculars spot the two mercs standing on the right side of the tower. Crouch down and close in on them quietly. When you are close enough to them and have a clear shot shoot both of them down before they can react. I can usually do this without expending more than 6 bullets. Climb up atop the tower and look through your binoculars towards the enemy base below. Yipes! Your binoculars will eimmediately pick up a whole slew of enemies. Surely you can take on all of them by yourself!? I suggest that you don't even attepmpt that. If you take a look at your feet you will see a sniper rifle. Exchange it with one of your weapons and zoom in on one of the guard towers on either side of the camp. Start with the two towers, taking out the sniper in each one, and then pick off enemies in the camp. Start at the point of the camp closest to you and then work your way towards the firing range. The sniper rifle doesn't have enough ammuniton for you to scour the camp clean but you can thin down the security considerably. You just have to take out as many as you can and then finish off the job with your trusty M4. As you make your way down the steep hill to the enemy camp you will encounter a bunch of enemies but they are spread out enough that you can take care of them one by one without worrying about the others. Once inside the perimeter of the camp look around and spot any enemies that stand out right away. there should still be some around since you couldn't get all of them but nothing that your M4 won't make quick work of. Move through the tent first and pick up the body armour. Stand at one of the entrances to the tent and look towards the gun turret situated right in the middle of the camp.[ Shoot the two mercs standing there. From now on you just have to watch out for enemies since how many and where they will be depends upon which ones you took out. In the armory you will need to have the following a security card and explosives. Pick up the security card in the administration building which is located on the western side of the camp. The explosives can be picked up in the briefing building which is opposite the admin building. Once you have both of those items head for the armory. In the armory pick up the ammo situated on the racks in the first room. In the next room open the locked door with the security card that you picked up and gather all the ammo that you can. Now plant the explosives and get the hell out of there before you get caught in the blast. Move past the firing range and check out the buggies. When you drive past the garage you'll hear the noise of a Humvee starting up. Face your mounted turret towards the garage doors and you'll see a HumVee come out of it. Shoot the two occupants and comandeer the HumVee since it is a little more heavy-duty than your buggy. When you barrel down the road it makes a sharp uphill. at the top of the hill you will see two mercs. Take out at least one of them (it's possible to get both in one go) by smashing into them with your HumVee. Whatever happens don't stop moving, keep moving down the road at top speed. Moving on, the trail will bring you to a roadblock right by a river. Shoot the mercs by the humvee and then move around the roadblock and cross the river. The next uphill on this trail will take you to another HumVee that has three mercs standing by it. Ram the mercs before they can shoot you and then forge ahead towards the pier, which is just ahead. When you approach the pier try to shoot whatever you can but don't count on hitting much. Just try to do some damage as you drive into the little storage shed next to the pier. Hop out abd take cover behind the boxes in the shed. Look out and shoot at the enemies on the pier as well as any that are lurking around your shed. The best way to take care of the mercs on the pier is to shoot all the explosive barrels on the peir. When each one is shot it will take out at least two or three mercs. Anyways, you have to clear the area of mercs before you can meet up with Doyle so hunt down and kill all the mercs on and around the pier. When they are all dead head to the very end of the pier and wait for Doyle to arrive. ============================================================================== ============================================================================== 05) Research The basic strategy here is to skirt around the perimeter of the area and enter a small shack on the top of the hill. Before you start off though get to a spot on your little island where you can get a clear view of most of the island. Usually it is good enough to just get to the top of the small incline to your right. Look through your binoculars. You should be able to tag about 16 mercs right off the bat. Once you have scanned the island with your binoculars put them away and wade into the water. Now swim to the very tip of the other end of the bay. The position you are in once you come out of the water enables you a lot of cover since you will have to battle_a_lot_of_mercs here. Make sure you swim as far underwater as you can since that will keep you out of sight from the mercs. When you come out of the water take cover behind something and pick off as many mercs as you can with your M4. Your eventual goal at this point is to make it to the shack on top of the hill to the north. There will be from 15-20 mercs in this area so keep moving around, taking cover, and scanning all directions. If you need to take out your binoculars and scan the area with them to tag any enemies that are hiding from you. Once all the enemies are disposed of head up to the top of the hill and enter the shack. just be aware that, despite your best efforts, there may still be a few enemies lurking in the trees around the shack so approach cautiously. Inside the shack you will need to acquire a security card. This card will allow you to bypass some key doors that let you progress in the game. If are in dire need of health and armour this is the place to stock up since there is a small cache of those items on the shelves. Head outside the shack and scan the area once more, especially towards the bottom of the hill where you will need to enter the caves. If there are still some enemies hanging out in the area then you may pleasure your violent nature with the mortar launcher that is (rather convieniently) loacted right outside the shack. Once you are sure you won't encounter any resistance getting to the caves run down the hill and proceed through the entrance. There is one solitary merc in the immediate area here. Shoot him, he should be within a reasonable distance to the radio. Listen to the wierd radio transmission (liek omg teh frekie!1!). It bears little importance to you as of now so keep moving. Use your keycard to open the gate into the caves. A cutscee will take over. This is your first view of a Trigen. I don't think I need to tell you how dangerous they are...so I won't. Just get a good look at it because you're going to be seeing a lot of them in the rest of the game. At the intersection just ahead go to the right. Before you enter the room with the walkways and the dead machinery the power will go out but don't worry because there is ample lighting for you to take out the 5 mercs in this room. When you enter the room look up towards the catwalk at the right. You should see a merc standing there. Shoot him. Now wait here and you will find that two more mercs come from behind the generator lying on the floor. Shoot them and then move up the stairs directly in front of the entrance to the room. Scan the area below as well as the other walkway, both of these areas will contain one merc. Shoot them both when the chance arises. Make your way to the only other entrance/exit into the room. Two mercs will be hanging out on the other side of it. Shoot them both and then move into and up the passage beyond. When you are walking up the passage you will encounter a few mercs but nothing that your M4 can't handle. They will always be lurking around the next roundabout so keep on your toes. When you reach the top there will be a choice to make. Forward or right? Go forward. This will take you to the generator switch. Flick it on with a quick press of the use key. Before you head back pick up the health pack that is hidden in the dark corner of the room. Now make your way back into the generator room. As you are going back the lights will come on and help you find your way. In the generator room, at the top of the walkway, you will find the elevator. Enter it and push the use key on the control panel to make it move upwards. At the top you will hear the sound of a Trigen but don't mess your pants because it on't attack you seeing as how it is nowhere in the room. There is nothing in this room except for a dead technician so make your way to the doorway that is marked "EXIT". When you reach it the level will end. ============================================================================== ============================================================================== 06) Treehouse Head right and go through the door. Gaze upon the dead Trigen (Doyle will tell you a little about them). There is nothing to worry about in terms of enemies of any sort until you get outside. Move through the garage and past the debilitated jeep. The security room contains nothing as well so move through the door on the right and you will be outside. This outdoors area consists of a large network of suspended bridges that interconnect research facilities with the surrounding area so that the scientists can study the Trigens from a safe location. At the moment the Trigens seem to be wreaking havoc under the foliage and the mercenaries are all occupied with the Trigens. So move along the first bridge. More to come... ============================================================================== ============================================================================== UPDATES Version 0.25 Treehouse is a relatively long level so that Date September 12, 2004 level will be the only one included in this KB 42 update. I'll have maybe 1 or two more levels in the next update. <:>--<:>--<:>--<:>---<:>--<:>--<:>--<:> Version 0.20 This is the first version of the walkthrough. Date September 7, 2004 The walkthrough is completed up through the KB 35 fifth level of the game. I will update this guide whenever I get the next level or two done. Expect the net update by the end of the week. ============================================================================== ============================================================================== LEGAL INFORMATION This document is Copyright 2004 Don Fleming.
