       Bunkering Is Fun
   DIR By: Hecari
       Date: November 20, 2020, 4:47 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
I will most certainly catch a lot of flak for this post. Let me
preface this by stating that I am not particularly skilled at
Zerg Hex, nor am I very invested in it. I am simply a newer
player who enjoys Zerg Hex casually every once in a while, and
queues with some friends sometimes. I see that the vast majority
of voices on this forum are that of veteran or skilled
players--who ironically happen to be the a minority in actual
Zerg Hex lobbies--so I wanted to offer my own point of view
       about it.
Yes it is true, I unironically enjoy the bunkering playstyle.
The idea of holding the line against a horde of almost-zombies
until your forces grow enough to push out is very appealing.
It's not just sitting around waiting for numbers to go up
either, since for the majority of newer players macroing already
preoccupies a lot of attention. Making decisions about cutting
corners on defense to boost your economy is also interesting to
me, as well. It's also the most intuitive way to play the game,
since surviving against the Zerg is immediately your first goal,
and building defenses then comes naturally.
Having this other playstyle being an option adds diversity to
the game design and makes every game different. I have tried
early T1 pushes and I am acceptable at it, but I also like being
able to dynamically choose what strategy to go for, and I enjoy
the fact that multiple strategies even exist. There seems to be
a push to have early aggression be the only strategy, and that
bunkering is boring and unhealthy. I think the real problem here
is not that bunkering itself is unhealthy, but rather one
person's bunkering forces the other two to also bunker since the
increased pressure is too much; it's that bunkering forces a
strategy upon your teammates, not that the strategy itself is
bad. This lack of choice of how one gets to play seems to be the
       real complaint here.
Maybe WMaster really does intend for early Terran aggression to
be the only valid way to play. In this case, I just want him to
understand that the people and opinions expressed here are
perhaps not a full representation of the playerbase, and that we
do actually enjoy aspects of the game that are rather negatively
       viewed here.

Don't worry, i really like to bunker too and good players are
       really strong at bunkering :p
The more you play bunker the more you understand what it means
for your team as you said yourself :)
So be sure that no good players will blame you for loving to
       bunker^^ we all do.
Wmaster created the Ion canon for a good reason^^
Bunker is a really nice thing but should be used at a last trump
card when everything else failed !
We are not against it, we just don't want people to be able to
       abuse it.

But I feel like with the new patch, Bunkering is basically dead.
Without the Chem Plant Terran can't possible get enough eco to
try to coordinate a late game push. Although you can get a few
elites, without the upgrades, and without the resources to
produce an actual army, late game is for Terran is dead. I feel
like the patch forces a single playstyle onto us and limits the
uses of other strategies. Not only is Terran is now rewarded
extra for being aggressive early because of the nerf to roaches,
but also there is no endgame path for Terrans. Which leaves us
with the only strat of pushing and ending or severely crippling
the Zerg with t1 marines. If I am in a lobby with weaker or new
Terran players and I cannot significantly break the Zerg early,
there is no transition to a later game. I might as well leave
the game. I will have no eco (because no chem plant) and I will
have weak units. I can't Bunker down because of the lack of dps
and a lack of upgrades for my units. I think while the Chem
plant needs a nerf, I think removing it from the game forces a
playstyle and strategy onto the Terran players.
I think the issue with the patch is that you guys are viewing it
from a Pro v Pro perspective, while players that are bad like me
will be destroyed by the zerg. Because my micro is shit and I
dont have extremely high APM so I can't keep up with the Zerg
       units.

Why is it wrong that players who are bad will have a much harder
       time winning games?

       Your possibilities in next patch:
       -Push with T1/T2
-Rush T3 + Italis fast while bunkering early
       -trooper/reaper early push
       -rush ion canon
-playing a support build to energy supply the t1 pushers
-turret push troll build still possible (don't do that xD)
       -full based trooper push
-Don't forget the new reworked Firebat, we still don't tried it.
There are a LOT of things to do, don't worry. Chem was just so
good that people forgot how to play zerg hex.

Bunkering wont be dead, it will just be impossible late game,
however early game it is even going to be harder to kill you. I
am going to try to put out a guide or 2 as soon as the new patch
comes out with some bunker strategies.

Bunkering is fun for you, because it is easy to execute, and you
have the joy of success in it. Any good zerg will drop focus of
a hard turtle terran and just crush the other ones.
When i see players getting 1 gas fb bunker: i know that until 15
min i have 2v1. More spawners on your teammates, pushing them
back easier, delaying their progress, also more eco for me.
This bunkering puts tremendous amount of pressure on your
teammates. What could be fine if both of them good, because it
is clear that 2v1 good terrans win vs zerg. If they get some
support from you with FBs and energy it is easy to win.
BUT it is depending on lobby. Mostly it just makes ppl mad to
see you do nothing for 15 min while they struggle. Also they
struggle while you just wabble in with 5 bats dealing massive
dmg. You dont work for it.
So yeah, this is the problem with "bunker". Nobody says it is
not fun, it is fun to have success.
I feel like i repeated myself a lot here lol
