       Hydras
By: Speed Date: April 4, 2021, 5:58 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
After a couple months I have a pretty refined opinion on
       hydralisks.
I played with them a lot and I must say they are really damn bad
lol. They have 7 range, so marines with 8 range have a massive
advantage, when hydras take 200 dmg, hydras lose their 1st layer
so they lose 1 range, bringing them down to 6, at this point you
cannot realisticly use this hydra against a skilled terran
anymore. 50s to re-gain a layer is much better than 120s, but
it's way too long, especially when you have to deal with more
than 1 terran. You also cannot prevent losing layers, since you
are literally at a range disadvantage.
The only redeeming point of hydras is the fact that a lot of
(usually bad / mediocre) terrans think you cannot fight 3 hydras
with T1 and sometimes even T2 (felt a lot of braincells dieing
when a terran with veterans ran away because 3 hydras showed up
to "defend" his push at 15+ min...), so while the hydra is still
a pretty trash unit, investing into 3-6 (only invest when you
are 1000% sure you are going to be pushed!) can be worthwhile,
they will pick off a few T1s and scare the terran away, buying
you valuable time to get more supply upgrades, infestors and
       infestor energy.
You can also put X (two digit number ideally) hydras on the ramp
to hive, and together with the big spines they will even defend
large elite armies, but this is less hydras being good / useful
and more about the ramp being pretty broken.
I think beastlings are better than hydras, but 3 beastlings
don't make terran run back, so unlike beastlings I actually make
hydras, but I really don't think they are good units x)
I have a couple changes in mind for hydralisk, however I think
zerg economy needs to be changed beforehand, the current economy
is too slow and making a unit that is balanced for the current
economy and then buffing the economy is certain to create an
overpowered unit :p Also Wmaster seems to be done with patching,
which is a little sad cause the tank really needs to be reverted
lol... along with some other balance / design changes ^^

Hydra at range 7 is fine, 6 is a skeptic, but when they are down
to their last shell they are useless.
The AI for hydra are quite dumb so your sim city needs to be
polish enough for the hydra to move freely. You really do need
to hotkey and pre split on them for them to be effective with
enough creep tumor for creep for the hydras to move correctly.
20 hydra hotkey and presplit on hold command will always do
better than 100 hydra that you decide to box and click attack on
the minimap. High probability they will get stuck and only 3
hydras are attacking at a time
Hydra however do not fare well vs stim and bubble. I suguest a
longer cooldown for bubble and shortly duration for stim. This
is honestly where i think most zerg fails hard, they dont move
back and they lose all their investments in def units. At 2k
       income, hydra are basically free

What you said is so wrong, I'm not even gonna argue about it,
it's simply wrong (20 hydras = free, while on 2k income
       X-fucking-D)

       7 range much fine...
its so fine that I actualy never make more than 3 hydra bc more
would just feel unfair to the terran
I also want to officialy thank u in the name of community for
sharing with us,lesser ones, the bigbrain strats of not sending
our hydras into bubble from a choke
I must admit its such revolutionary thing it never even crossed
my mind, now I will never again lose my hydras to 60 t1! THANKS
actualy now that this pro strat is know I would actualy want to
propose neft to hydra range by 1 to offset this power spike that
will no doubt happen when everyone learn to use them properly

Not sure who both of you are, but i believe i played both of you
once so you're really irrelevant. This is why the community is
so toxic, its people like you. Both of you may be good, but
being a 14 year troll is rather annoying. Hydra are fine, im
       okay with it.

I agree, you're irrelevant, have a good day.
Hydras are a rather bad unit.
