       Race Reports: Monza & Singapore
By: dreglar Date: August 29, 2011, 8:34 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Monza - Only just made it after rushing back from Sydney (thanks
for waiting guys!). Stuffed up my best lap in qually but even
so, wasn't sure if i had the pace to top gun. Great lap mate!
Got a shocking start as usual, fell back to about fourth before
i even got out of 3rd gear. I pulled over to the inside to let
people through but murph was there so i quickly jinked left just
to give him some room just as the track started to narrow and i
think i touched livo which sent me back in to the path of murph
and onto the grass, somehow we avoided a plane crash! I slowed
up big time on the grass and fell towards the back of the pack.
Picked up a couple of spots on the first laps as people in front
had a few incidents. Pitted early from about 5th and rejoined in
3rd which quickly became second when drew spun on the 1st turn
coming out of the pits. Closed up on to gun who'd been leading
from pole with livo keeping close company behind. When gun
clipped the dreaded turn 3 curb i inherited the lead which i
managed to hold on to until the end.
Singapore - With qually cancelled, I started in 8th on primes.
Again I got an atrocious start and pulled to the inside to let
the guys behind through only to discover this time that HSV was
on my inside. I braked quite early and HSV went flying by and i
think he got a penalty as he cut the pit-lane exit to avoid me,
sorry mate. Managed to avoid the usual carnage at turn 1 and
wound up in about 3rd/4th bided my time for the first couple of
laps trying to get into a rhythm. closed up on the leading bunch
with gun immediately infront. Gun half spun at the turn 8,9,10
chicane and i pulled up along side entering the bridge complex.
I made a half-hearted attempt to pass but ended up spinning gun
around. I kept going as not to cause another accident and backed
off around the rest of the lap to let him catch up again. I was
going to let him through on the start/finish straight but he
pulled into the pits to repair the damage from his half spin (i
think). Sorry mate. As the guys in front came into the pits to
change to primes i assumed the lead and set about putting
together some clean, consistent laps. The rest of the race was
pretty lonely as i pitted and resumed the lead about 10 secs
infront of second place. Had some fun on the option tyre putting
together a couple of hot laps but had to back off to ensure they
didn't wear out before the end.
All in all a great weekend in terms of the drivers and
constructors championship with murph also finishing well in both
races. As I probably wont be able to race next weekend it was
important i built up a bit of a buffer, and with three of my
least favourite tracks to finish the season, anything can
       happen.

Monza: Can't remember lol. IIRC Qualified 5th (again for the
100th time lol) Gained 2 spots off the line into the 1st corner.
Was behind Ugotgun in 2nd & drew close behind me in 3rd in the
early laps. We took turns passing each other IIRC? Can't
remember how Dreglar got ahead, pit stop under cut maybe? Which
put me in 3rd & then 2nd when ugotgun made his mistake. Was
basically matching Dreg's lap times but didn't want to risk a
penalty so decided to back off as a 2nd place was still good
enough for me to be thrilled ;D
Singapore: Started 3rd. Passed Murph into turn 1. Passed Ugotgun
into turn 2. Leading the race on a street circuit & I'm thinking
**** can the race end now please with everyone right on my arse.
Completely bottled it on lap 10 on the last turn as I caught the
inside curb which spat me out onto the outside wall, broken
front wing. ****d & went on softs. Bad decision as the last 2
laps I was nursing the car with completely shot tyres. Probably
lost more time staying out than pitting again for the last 2
laps hence the 80sec diff to the race winner. Finished 5th?
EDIT: Oh yeah & for half the race my engine mode was on cruise &
       didn't notice - EPIC FAIL
Overall: Moved up to 2nd in the championship but the remaining
tracks are my worst so not being optimistic.

MONZA: this is a track that i hardly play on at all,ive never
had a setup either but i spent a few long nights in time
trials and came up with a decent set up....soooooooo qualy 1st i
was really suprised that i beat dreg by around half a sec i
think. :) i knew dreg was gonna have a shocking start as the
poor bloke does every race so i quickly got away.and held the
lead till i think around 4 or 5 laps to go ....and then panic
buttons happend just like montreal im nearly home ,my hands
start to sweat and my heart wants to jump out my chest and i
took to much kerb at turn 3 spun and hit the wall.
i damged my wing and just as i was about to get out of the sand
pit dreg, drew and livo go past.i ended up just in front of hsv i
held him off for a few laps it was a good battle. he had the
jump on me after every corner due to my wing but i was able to
pull away on the straights,2nd last lap he spun i had a chance
to breath again finished 4th but got 3rd because of drews
penalty.....i feel a win coming soon ive stuffed up 3 chances
SINGAPORE: started 4th jumped into 2nd behind livo and mate u
were drivin like a drifter u were sideways around every
corner.lol it was good to watch
we both made a little gap between dreg.but 1 thing about dreg is
never think he wont catch up cuz he always does lol..we had a
little hicup as dreg said,i had to pit to change wing, and then
again, and 2 tyre changes so 4 stops and wrapped to finish 5th
       and finish the race

Was under a lot of stress pre-race...waiting for my power to cut
off, but somehow I successfully made it through both races!
Lights were flickering all through Monza, but I made my place
completely dark and shut off all big electric items to prevent
any sort of strong power grab.
MONZA: Put myself 3rd on the grid next to dreglar, and jumped
him off the line. (Typically dreglar has terrible starts for
whatever reason). Stayed right on gun's rear wing through the
first chicane while I watched red dots scatter across the map
behind me. We pulled away from the group right away and he
started pulling away little by little. Made a mistake on lap 4
in the first chicane and liv passed me. Pitted from 3rd on lap 5
and instantly had a graceful spin through the chicane trying to
hold off dreglar, and earned myself a 10 second penalty for
corner cutting (my first warning, mind you). BS call, as I could
do nothing but come across the track anyway. Noticed HSV and
maca were less than 10 sec behind me so I started to step on it
from there. Maca made some mistakes, but still had Murph to
worry about after his quick stop. Few laps from the end, gun got
messed up in the 2nd chicane and I took 3rd place back. Started
to get quite nervous that I was gonna fall to 5th at the end
with the 10 sec penalty (could not pull away from gun and HSV)
until I heard HSV's cry of dismay that he had spun. Crossed the
line 3rd, but penalty pushed me back to 4th.
SINGAPORE: Was fixing to qually well here also, until we had to
ditch the qual effort to pick up those who lost connections.
Randomly was placed in 6th at the restart, and got punted across
the track at turn 1 (don't know who did it, but I saw a Williams
and a Virgin nose....) fell to 9th, and picked up 5 spots as the
lap went on due to cars spinning/quitting all over the place.
Was leading before my pit stop (dreg and gun and a coming
together in the chicane before the bridge), and spun on my in
lap, letting liv past, but stayed right on his rear wing
entering the pit lane. Couldn't find where my pit box was while
staring at liv's gearbox, so i wound up sending the jack guy on
to the nose of my car (love the thumping sound, the game sounds
when he falls on your car, by the way...makes me laugh
everytime). So had a slow stop and only dropped to 3rd. I pushed
and pushed and pushed and was praying for liv to make a mistake,
and he did on the very last double left-hander going on to the
front straight. In the closing stages of the race, dreglar was
10 sec or so ahead of me after his pit stop, and the gap was
staying the same. With 2 to go, my fuel started blinking, so I
needed to turn it on cruise right away to save it, and as such
the gap to 1st increased. Finished a cozy 2nd though, with
probably my best Singapore event yet.
Next week, I will miss race 1 due to work, but I will be home in
time for race 2 if there's a spot open.

Thanks for posting Drew! It's interesting to hear what happened
to other people in races & how their race unfolded from their
point of view. Especially the stuff about the pit stop & fuel
drama which no one else would of known about.
I just wish more people posted their Race reports! I ask that
one of the admins (maybe ugotgun) could create the topic for the
weekend before it starts. That way people can post in the thread
immediately after the event while its still fresh in their mind.
P.S No video Gaz from last weekend? :'(
