deader than the red dead sea [private]

[center]"Darlin'?" The massive grey tom let out a huff of relief
when he picked up on the scent of his pregnant mate. It must
have been coincidence they haven't talked in days, right? Just
never a good time to talk or something, must be. Although they
sleep in the same nest together, it seemed as though he was
never with her. Always distant. How is it someone can love
another when nothing is tangible, and all words seem to be
forbidden secrets? Oedipus shook it off and decided that a small
intervention for their relationship was in order. Where did they
stand? And these kits-- what was going to happen to them?
Throwing his shoulders back defiantly, the Deputy grunted before
slipping into their den, his green eyes keen on finding hers.

"Yes?" She meowed in a taught tone as she stiffly walked into
the den, her emerald green optics blazing ever so slightly and
her scarred, tortoiseshell pelt bristling ever so slightly, more
than its normal amount. Everything seemed to make her mad, it
had been that way her entire life, the reason she'd been cast
from ThunderClan after starting a fight with a den mate of
her's, killing the foolish kit, but being sent away, unlike her
older siblings who had left willingly. And they were all
medicine cats now, minus Atlas. Atlas was the only smart one,
the others were idiots. Prairiedog had been a kittypet and had a
litter of kittens while there, she was soft. Circe? Deformed.
Jaden? He was knocked over the head and hadn't been seen since
then, so he must have been gone.
"Idiot trespassers. How are you?" Niko asked as she sat down,
leaning down awkwardly to lick the blood from her alabaster
paws, staining her tongue and ivory hued incisors crimson, but
not really caring.

[center]Honesty. That was an important thing in a relationship.
Letting out a trembling sigh, the Deputy forced a smile but it
ultimately turned into a grimace-- that was expected, "Not to
good, Niko. I just can't grasp what's goin' on with us. Whatever
we ah', ye know?" The silver grey tabby wanted to embrace her,
to smell her, to feel her fur against his muzzle. But at the
same time, he was afraid. Fear for rejection. Fear that it could
be the last time. Just something about their dangerously rocky
relationship set him on the edge of seat at all times.
Looking down at his mate with mysterious, clouded green eyes, he
couldn't help but close them. He didn't want to see her right
now. To look into her eyes. Nope. Not right now.

"I thought we were doing pretty good, but if you want to break
up I'm cool. Kittens can die or get shipped off once they're
born if you want." She responded with a casual shrug, not
exactly wanting to be viewed as weak in front of her deputy, who
at any second could kill her and knock her out of her position
of power.

"I'll never leave you. I love you with every ounce of my body.
But what are we, Niko?" He meowed, eager for an answer. Mates?
He wanted to scoff. She showed no affection towards him. This
young leader could be using him for all he knew, but damn, he
was head over heels for her. That would be a downer if she
really didn't like him.
Oedipus breathed coolly, hoping what he was about to say sounded
okay, "Do you love me?" The silver tom, too, hated to appear
weak, but when it came to Niko? Well, in this case it didn't
count. Not for her.
