Let the past be the sound, of {o}ur feet upon the ground.

Tick. Tick. Tick. The reeds whisted as a young blue cat batted
at them with her paw, golden eyes focused on their stems
intently. The ticking of the river water rushing over the smooth
stones caused her pelt to prickle in anxiety. The last thing she
needed was such a sound to drive her insane. Soldierpaw let out
a small sigh.
The depth of the river glared at her, mockingly. She was
Riverclan for peats sake.. So why was she so scared of a little
water? It hadn't done anything to her. Well.. Not exactly. She
could smile now at the memory of almost drowning as a kit, but
it still hurt. She was still deathly afraid. A river dwelling
cat out of place. She crunched the Rees beneath her foot and
lifted her large ears. Had someone followed her?

[center]Libertystatue, not so much following, but trailing
behind curiously. That was a good way to put it. The Deputy
pushed her way through a wall of reeds and sniffled with little
amusement. Bloody allergies, they annoyed her to the core.
Seeing Soldierpaw beside the riverbank, however, lit her mood
intensively, and so the alabaster beauty strode forward with a
smirk, "Wanna take a dip with me?" Libby cackled, unaware this
cat was afraid of the depths below. Her tail wavered as she was
nearing closer and closer, about to make and attempt to push the
apprentice in playfully.
Why would she think a RiverClanner couldn't swim, right? The
young Deputy was just having an off day, and would think if she
was feeling better, but alas-- the cold made her nasty and
unpredictable, or sometimes even ridiculous like now.
Oops.

Soldierpaw whipped around at the voice, about to greet her
kindly and refuse, but the sudden push caught her off balence
and without warning, the blue apprentice tumbled foward into the
river, whipping her legs about like useless noodles. Her short
life flashed before her eyes. This had been the way her brothers
and sisters had died, drowning. Desperately she tried to fight
the water and keep her head above the icy liquid,"H-help!
Please! Liberty!" Soldierpaw yelled. She didn't want to die! She
couldn't swim!

[center]"Aw shit!" The Deputy cried hitting herself with her own
paw. The slender white she cat dove into the water, taking a
large breath of air with her. Her body disappeared under the
water and at first glance, you'd never have known Libby was
under. But alas-- she was, and was trying to save the poor
apprentice whom she knocked in. Time to clean up the mess you
made it seemed.
The Deputy felt what she thought was fur, though, her eyes
weren't able to open much and see. She prayed it was in fact Sol
and just grabbed hold of the mass with her teeth. Pulling the
light thing up with her, the Deputy swam frantically upwards.
[we should have a thread where she teaches her to swim ;o does
she have a mentor?]

Ooc; that would be great! And no.. Sadly.. Though if you want
Libertystatue could be her mentor? I think their names fit (her
name will be soldiermarch)
The little dilute Tortie came up sputtering and gasping for
breath anything to help air get back into her lungs. At least
the deputy had been there to help, even if it was her fault. The
apprentice quickly scampered onto the bay once they hit shallow
enough water. Her pelt was soaked, she was freezing, and her
chest burned from lack of oxygen. "T-thanks for s-s-saving me,"
she said between clacking teeth. Obviously Libertystatue wasn't
aware of her predicament. But really, who would be? A Riverclan
cat who couldn't swim? Hilarious!

[center]The RiverClan Deputy let out an exasperated sigh of
relief, her head shaking back and forth vigorously. Shaking her
pelt clean, Libby chuckled, "Yeah, don't mention it. You had me
scared shitless, girl," A bead of sweat, oddly not river water,
trickled down the side of her face. She rubbed her cheek on her
shoulder and realized, wow, this cat didn't know how to swim.
Fancy that-- an apprentice in the clan that could drown so
easily. She clucked her tongue and bitter smile appeared, "You
don't know how to work the waters, do ya'?" Libertystatue asked,
surprising herself the way it sounded coming out. Who would've
thought? Definitely not her.
The crystal white cat then thought this over real hard. She
could teach Sol. She could show her the ropes. Teach her to
swim. Help raise her as a mentor. Why not, right?
"Hey kid, who's teaching you?"

Sol had been licking her patched pelt clean when the deputy
asked the question. With a mouthful of blue fur, she shook her
head,"No one. I've spen helben myself spence-" The little cat
gave out an annoyed growl and spat the hair out of her mouth.
She sounded like even more of a fool now. "S-since I was a
little kit," she finished feeling her fur grow hot with
embarrassment.
Her mother had left her and two other newborns by this same
river and just left. Soldierpaw was the only one who had made it
out alive. Just barely though. Ever since then she had hated
water, the river, rain. Anything of the substance. Ironically
she had crawled into Riverclan, but Starclan needed a little
sick humor apparently.
"Why do you ask?"

[center]An ear to ear grin showed on her maw as the Deputy mewed
confidently, "I could train you, teach you to swim," Her eager
sapphire eyes were almost pleading, but not quite. Yes, Libby
yearned to train someone, anyone, but Soldier? She had a
connection with her. The alabaster she cat wanted to train this
apprentice, right fucking now. Liberty wanted full claim to be
the one that says 'I train Soldierpaw'.
With a flick of her tail, she mewed with her chin raised, "It
would be an honor to take you under my wing, if you so choose."
The snow white Deputy refrained from a giggle as she winked one
blue eye at Sol playfully.
[i'll make the ceremony thread for riverclan and sticky it in a
few]

She couldn't help but to smile in return, hiding the
overwhelming feeling of acceptence radiating within her. The
alabaster deputy was kind and actually pretty funny just by the
looks of it. Having a mentor do high up in rank was truly
something special,"I would love to train with you!" Sol chirped
in delight. "J-just please don't push me in again.. I think I
might freeze to death."
Sure, Soldierpaw had always dreamed of having a mentor.. But the
deputy? Perhaps her ancestors didn't hate her after all!
Ooc; sounds good!

[center]"Come to the ceremonies, dear," The Deputy instructed
with a soft smile, and suddenly turned on her heel. No tail
wavered in offering to join, as she had duties to tend to. No
worries though-- Libby would see her quite soon.
[short post, sorry. ceremony thread is up and stickied.]
