I read a short biography on Rory McIlroy. Rory is a golfer in
the PGA that has been interested in golfing from a very early
age. The author provides details about that when they write tht
he "allegedly hitting a forty yard driveat age two, and putting
his first hole-in-one at the tender age of nine." The author is
proving to the reader with those details on how since he was
just a young kid, he loved golf. When he was just a teen, he
became a known force not only in Ireland, but on the continent.
He represented Europe in the 2004 Ryder Cup, which is a very big
deal. To be representing your continent at such an early age for
a sport shows his devotion to golf. It is something he loves,
something that he wants to be playing for as long as he can. He
played in his first pro tournament when he was 16. The author
mentioning his age so much could be to make it stand out that he
was young and already so far into a golfing career, when it
could take others much longer. In 2007, he went pro. He also
made history by having a win on the US PGA before the age of 21,
some other people doing that being Tiger Woods and Phil
Mickelson. The author would want to use those two names in
comparison because of how popular and well known they are as
golfers, being two of the best golfers of our time, and possibly
all time. Having McIlroy be part of a list with them makes
people think that he is an amazing golfer just like them, and
the author was smart to do that.

In the biography about Jason Statham, author Susan Clarke writes
about all of the movies that he has been in (until 2011). She
doesn’t go very in depth into his life. She is mainly just
describing the movies he was in. In the first paragraph, Clarke
takes Jason Statham’s career and condenses it into the single
paragraph. Then in the second paragraph and on, she starts to
tell his life story in chronological order from his early life
to his acting career now. She uses very little sentence variety.
Almost every single sentence is simple; only a few of the
sentences weren’t. One thing I liked about this biography was
the way the author used descriptive words like when she says,
“…caught up in a twisting and unpredictable plot involving the
mob and a stolen diamond”, she uses the words, “twisting”, and,
“unpredictable”, to describe the movie. Using words like these
help the reader paint a picture in their head of what the movie
       was like.

Because I was listening to his music today, I decided to read a
biography about late rapper Big Punisher. The author of this
biography didn't write anything signifinance about Big Pun. He
just basically told his life story of his early years, teen
years, his struggles in his teen years into his adult life, then
his rap career until he passed on February ,2000 because of a
heart attack. The author explained that Big Punisher
(Christopher Rios) was born ad raised in New York on November
10, 1971. He moved out to live on his own and even dropped out
of high school at age 15. But he always had a love for
breakdancing and rapping. He loved rapping so much that he made
a rap group with some of his friends called the Full of Clips
Crew in 1995. He stood out of the group and soon latino rapper/
producer Fat Joe saw him and heard his music and liked what he
heard. So, Fat Joe got Big Pun a record deal at Loud Records.
The author also mentioned his success in his life. Big Pun
released the song I'm Not A Player off of his new album Capital
Punishment release in 1998. Both the single and album hit the
top of the R&B/ Hip Hop charts. However, at the time as success
for him arose, so did his weight. At the time, he weighted over
400 pounds. Big Pun lost at least 80 pounds; but he gained it
back plus more. And in 1999 he weighted over 700 pounds which
led to his heart failure and the cause of his death on February
7, 2000. The author didn't put a lot of detail in this
biography. However, they did get their point across by using the
main ideas on Big Pun's life.

I read a biography about Sergey Brin. He is the co-founder of
Google. In this biography, the author first talks about his
family, life in Moscow, Russia and why he and his family
emigrated to the United States. The author does this to first
show that he got his interest in computers and engineering from
his father. The author splits the paragraphs up into
chronological events. First the author talks about his early
life and than in the second paragraph starts to explain how
Sergey started to work on Google at Stanford University. The
word choice that the author uses, allows the reader to
understand the difficulty of creating algorithms and overall
majoring in computer science at Stanford. With the word choice
the author also uses voice to let the reader hear the complexity
of Google and how they made it what it is today. The choice that
the author has made to make this a successful peace of writing
is allowing the reader to understand most parts of how Sergey
Brin created Google but still allowing the reader not to be
completely confused. I believe that the sentence structure in
this biography is successfully organized. The author tells the
story about one event in one sentence and than in the next
sentence, tells more about it in detail. This goes throughout
the biography and allows the reader to be able to picture the
       events in their mind.

The biography I read was about Marilyn Monroe. Though I wasn't a
fan of the biography started off, I think as it went on it
improved slightly. The bio started off with her date of birth
and real name. It seemed kind of boring to just put that out as
the first sentence but the bio picked up after that paragraph.
The biography focused a lot on her career but it didn't just
focus on one monumental thing Monroe did but instead focused on
many things like early life, career and her death. When the
biography focused on her career it seemed to just roll of facts.
It said what she did, what year, and the significance. Something
that I learned in class that I wish I saw the author use was
focusing on one big event in her life. The biography seemed to
just say a bunch of events. If the bio had focused on Marilyn
Monroe singing "Happy Birthday Mr. President" for John F.
Kennedy it would of been more interesting and give a better view
on the bio. In another way though, I do like that this author
just rattled off many facts about Monroe, because I didn't know
a lot of those things about her so it was interesting for me to
       learn more.
