Will Zemmour hold his ground and prove to be a serious
contender? As a complete beginner in politics and with little
support in the territory, he faces a gigantic task. Whether
electorally successful or not, he has already had an impact on
this election and on French politics in general. In addition to
the centrality achieved by Zemmour on the political scene, there
has been a great shift to the right. This began during the
presidency of Nicolas Sarkozy (2007-2012), but has intensified
       during Macron's mandate.
The voting projections for all candidates on the right (Macron
and Valérie Pécresse, candidate of The Republicans) and on the

right (Zemmour and Le Pen) have
reached a maximum of 70%-75%. The fragmented left is
historically weak and does not influence the main political
debates. In fact, French politicians spend little time debating
socioeconomic issues. The most polarized debates revolve around
the culture wars . In France, they focus on immigration, Islam
and its alleged threat to secularism and republican values,
culture and education (the "Islamo-leftism" controversy ) and
"woke culture" . These endless culture wars strengthen the
extreme right, which traditionally does well on these issues.
In February 2021, Gérald Darmanin, Macron's Interior Minister,
in a debate with Marine Le Pen, considered that she was "not
tough enough on Islam." Le Pen, in return, congratulated
Darmanin on her latest book, titled Islamist Separatism , noting
that it could have been written by her. In the first round of
their primary elections, members of the Republicans party gave
victory to Éric Ciotti, located on the extreme right of the
party, who prevailed over all the other candidates. Ciotti, who
is a carbon copy of Zemmour, has stated that he would be happy
to support him if Zemmour got through the second round of
       elections.
