kings and successions [joining]

A he-wolf with magnificent jet-black fur strode onto the
territory like he owned the place. This enormous wolf was Onix,
who with a huge sense of power and pride, was wondering to
himself if he could join after scenting other wolves.
This wolf was huge, mighty powerful paws and teeth. His pelt
littered with scars, and a large, single white spot on his
shoulder. He certainly looked and acted tough, but sometimes,
just sometimes, this big guy had a soft side.
Onix glanced around with a tang of curiosity in his eyes,
wondering where the other wolves mentioned were.

"What up bro," Bear woofed with a little sup nod. Oh wait, he
wasn't in her pack. The brown she-wolf wasn't very familiar with
her packmates yet. "I mean, get out of he-- I mean, you better
join or be a prisoner or die!!" Oh shucks, now she just sounded
dumb. She hoped Zackarei would get here soon.

Onix just chuckled as he saw Bear. "Yeah, I came to join. Name's
Onix." Despite his mean-looking appearance, he was somewhat
friendly to others.

A wolf about the same size as Onix appeared from behind one of
the rocks. He glanced at Bear to show her she should let him
speak. "I don't care if you want to join, this is my territory.
I don't let just anybody in," he growled, making his way over to
the black-furred canine. Sure, they didn't leave borders, they
just knew what was theirs, but he still didn't like trespassers.
This guy seemed alright. He was not weak, the wolf would give
him that much. The only thing he didn't like about him was that
he was acting as if he were in charge. Zakarei locked eyes with
Onix, eyes cold.

"Oh, so your head honcho around here, I presume?" He just
smirked. "I was just guessing you need a wolf like me to make
your pack stronger than it is. Did you hear me say my name? It's
Onix."

"Yeah, I heard. I'm not deaf. And I don't need you around. I
could let you stay, but I don't need to. If you join, you have
to learn respect. Don't be so self-absorbed. Never show
submission, but don't act as if you're above those who really
are above you. Some of the basic rules of Rock Pack."

Onix softened a bit. "If I did learn respect, like you just
said, would you let me join?"

He narrowed his eyes, looking over the wolf, trying to decide.
"Possibly, if you actually meant it," he replied. Zakarei then
added, "But if I do let you join, you cannot tell anyone about
this pack."

He glared at him a few seconds, then finally agreed, "Fine. You
can join, but just learn your place, Onix." He realized neither
of them knew his name. Then he shrugged. It was better that way.
