Needs a gun in one hand and about 50-80 more pounds on him and
then, yes -- he'd be perfectly 'Murican.

Corbantis, Love the post with Washington crossing the Delaware.
I have always liked it because it was that fateful night that my
Y chromosome started on its journey to be an American. As the
story goes, my 4th Great Grandfather Caspar Goebbel (last name
later changed) was a Hessian mercenary, and was captured by
Washington's men that night. Some of the POW's went to work for
the Quakers in Pennsylvania and most eventually stayed after the
war. Others chose to fight for the Colonial Army on promise of
future land parcels. My Great Grandfather fought under General
Nathaniel Green in the South. Was captured by the Brits in a
battle later on, and escaped because he preferred the Colonials.
There is a crossing at Jon's Island, SC called Cable Crossing,
and there is actually a sign showing it. He later settled in the
Smoky Mountains in TN married to a woman that was the daughter
of a North Carolina British Loyalist. Actually his wife and her
mother moved with Caspar to TN because she supported the
Colonials. But they did make the trip to NC twice a year to
bring the old man supplies. The story goes a lot longer, but I
have already got long winded enough. I just thought if there was
a group of people to appreciate it, this would be it. Its just
cool to know that the day the US Constitution was ratified, and
it said that citizens were to be those that were natural born
and those that reside within the borders upon ratification. That
my peeps were already in Murica'.

That's awesome! My forebears came from England and settled in
Maryland in the late 1640s. Before moving into Virginia and then
North Carolina. My Dad's side came in from Virginia into North
       Carolina around the mid 1700s
