       Platoon Strategy
   DIR By: SmokyFiber163

"Where do you want to go?"
       "I was waiting on you."
"Looks like most are heading left, so lets go right."
       "OK."
Sound familiar? Other than keeping an eye on your platoon
buddies and helping out if they get in trouble, does this
scenario make it more likely for a victory than just playing
       lone wolf?
If there were a way to have a selection of rudimentary strategic
plans for a 3-tank platoon on each map, do you think it would
       help? Would you use it?

I'm all about a strategy and working tactics. I try to work on
them when I'm lone wolfing to get an idea of key strike points,
the only problem with that is that the variables are always
changing. What ever strategies you have put something together
and I'll run them with you or whoever wants to.

I'm all for strategy. Some of these 4 v 4 matches are a
       disaster without it.

Coordination of fire power is one strategy that can't be beat!

When in small platoon battles the keys seem to be:
       - Pick complimentary tanks (e.g., not all mediums or TDs, but a
       good mix)
       - Do NOT select non-turreted tanks, as they are too easy to
       track and kill
       - STAY TOGETHER! It seems as though we always lose when we split
       up
       - Try new things -- don't stay in known camping spots, etc., as
the maps all play so very differently in 7v7 or smaller battles
       - Protect the flag, or attack theirs with conviction; has to be
       one or the other
       - If in slow tanks (e.g., TOGs) play defense
       - When low tier, NEVER be afraid to fight and just play defense,
as they OpFor will be coming for you
       - When high tier, attack fast before the pansies on the reds
give up and kill themselves (happens way, way too often!)
In normal, random 15 v 15 battles, the keys seem to be:
       - Select tanks you do well in or are grinding, including
non-turreted ones as you tend to have more support
       - Watch where the greens go and cover where they are not
       - Communicate by sharing what tank you're shooting at and
       coordinating fire
       - If you need to bug out, say so; if someone else bugs out,
follow and support them, as it's better to fall back and regroup
than to stay in a bad situation
       - Don't be afraid to split up if the map or green team
composition requires it (e.g., a TD can stay back whereas the
       heavies can advance)
       - Don't rely on the greens, as there is a good chance they suck
       :palm:
       Of course, the #1 thing:
STOP SHOOTING AT ME WHEN YOU'RE ON THE RED TEAM! It's getting
old dying via Frivolous Comic's derped out Jumbo all the time.

Wow...good stuff so far. One of the biggest to stand out is:
       Flexibility is King.
We all have an obligation to learn the different tanks. I do
not like light tanks, however I try to play them so I can get a
feel for them. Same with arty, although I like arty a little
bit. I've learned more about what to do to avoid or kill these
vehicles than I have about being successful in them. Not
knowing certain tanks is not only your weakness, but your team's
       weakness.
We have to look at our strengths and weaknesses to do well. In
my book, majority rules OR you pick a team leader for a map or
blocks of time and create some sort of rotation. This way we
all learn how to lead. Every team should have a leader.
Making no decision is worse than making a wrong decision in my
       book.
Some premium tanks can deliver...kind of...but I largely agree
with Cheesie that they are not as strong if you are playing
competitively. Silvers are great and necessary, but these are
just not up to snuff with the progressive tanks.
YOLO is bad when you are platooning. If this is your plan, drop
out and lone wolf. This is of course not directed at spotters
or red herring throwers (making the bad guys think you are
coming from one direction and then doubling back.)
There is strength in numbers. Sparky and I were working on
calling our shots the other night, it actually stuck in my head
a little, as I did it off and on all weekend. Focused fire is
       devastating.
I'm sure there's a lot more rolling around in my head, just
can't think of it right now.

Great points, Cheesie, though I'm not sure how a team can "scout
the enemy early in the match" if a platoon has no one to fill
such a role, especially if you're all in heavies. Also, the T-71
seems to do just fine in these battles, even though it is a
light, and I have yet to see a game in which we stuck together
go poorly (we have lost a few that way, but seems to happen
       very, very rarely).
That being typed -- agree 100% that flexibility seems to be a
key, as does working as a team. (Had a few large platoons in
which one person did their own thing all the time -- those
battles did NOT go well, more often than not.) Your other points
(premium tanks, etc.) are all spot on, IMHO.

Tke....the problem with the t71 is it gets scout match making so
it is a crap shoot. Even heavys can scout. spread out a
crossed the map and locate the enemy....Once the opfor is
located, do not engage but back away or hull down and wait for
       support.

Excellent points, faethor. I agree, Flexibility in a platoon,
regardless of the size and makeup of the rest of the team, is
key to not just your own success, but to the success of the team
       and match as a whole.
