Awesome to hear that there are others who love to listen to the
melancholy misery that is the Smiths!
Do not forget one of the greatest base players ever...Andy
Rourke....as that selection should prove!

And let us not forget the short candle that was Joy Division.

Great listings already, mine would be more of the same, so I'm
going to do a timeline style.
Growing up in So. Cal. my mom listened to Neil Diamond, Kenny
Rogers, Beach Boys, Johnny Mathis...so I still find that music
calming and listen on occasions when I looking for sedation.
Jr. High was (early 80's) was spent listening to The Mighty 690,
a station in Tijuana, Mexico. Typical modern rock, Wall of
Voodoo, Cure, Smiths, Duran Duran, Modern English.
Early High School was punk. KROQ radio in Los Angeles. The
Cramps, Sex Pistols, Circle Jerks, Ramones, Bad Brain.
Late High School got into rap. KIIS f.m. LosAngeles. Beastie
Boys, Run DMC, LL Cool J, Eric B & Rakim.
College was in S.W. Louisiana and i found country. Garth
Brooks, Alabama, Neil McCoy, Reba, Tanya Tucker, Dwight Yoakum.
After college I put it all together, mix in Chili Peppers,
Sublime, No Doubt, lots of Ska and Alternative.
Nowadays I listen to everything including Techno House and hard
style.

One thing I find hard to believe is that Johnny Marr was only 23
years old when the Smiths broke up. To have that kind of talent
in what must have been his mid teens is remarkable. Marr is in
my opinion one of the most underrated guitarists of all time.
Great choice of song as well.
[/quote] Love the guitar on "How Soon is Now!" Listened to
them alot back in college...RUGBY Days.(85-89) but I mostly Jam
to old R&R. And like TKE I have a Jazz Affliction. 7 years of
playing saxophone and I always like that sound. Big fan of Boney
James, Pat Methany, Bob Acri, David Sanborn etc also like the
older Jazz Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, John Coultrain, Count
Basie, Duke Ellington, and Dave Brubeck - JAMS
Old Rock - Uriah Heap, Jethro Tull, BOC, Black Sabbath. Hey I
grew up with this stuff and nothing Jams like the concept albums
of the 70's.
But when I want to get pumped up - RUSH (#1), AC/DC (Bon Scot),
Van Halen (DLR), Etc...

So last summer there was a 2 day music festival in my home town.
It was the first year they did it and the venue was so close I
could hear it from my backyard. Headlining on day 2 was
Aerosmith. Kind of not a big fan and the rest of the bands were
also not my cup of tea. My son went because all of his friends
were going and what happens during the concert.... unannounced
act walks out on the stage and plays for 2 hours....Guns N
Roses. I could hear it from my backyard. My son texts me and I
already knew because I could hear Welcome To The Jungle.
This year I just heard they added to more acts to the line
up...Soundgarden and Janes Addiction. I have wanted to see Janes
Addiction for so long. One of my favorite all time songs is
Three Days. Dave Navarro is unbelievable on that song. Very very
talented. With Soundgarden and Janes playing I am hoping
surprised unannounced act could be Red Hot Chilipeppers or Tool.
They are all friends. Wishful thinking.

Some great bands & tunes mentioned so far.
As I may have mentioned I play bass guitar in various projects &
Bands. Music is my main passion of which other hobbies exist to
unwind & get away from practice/jamming sessions, gigs &
recording stuff.
So my taste in music is extremely eclectic, I could not list
everything I love as it feels like choosing a favorite child &
my post would be six feet long lol
here are a few:
Porcupine tree, Dave Mathews band, Pink Floyd, Pantera, Tosca, 4
Hero, Zero 7, Nervous 'Orse, Japanese fighting fish, Rob Zombie,
Wu Tang clan, Lab 4, Simon & Garfunkle, Slayer, Metallica, Onyx,
Daft Punk, Tianawan, Jon Gomm, Tool, Newton Falkner, Bonobo,
Stevie Wonder, Joni Mitchell, Air, Lemon Jelly, Bedouin
Soundclash, Beck, Alice In Chains, Cinematic Orchestra,
Wolfmother, Who, Tricky, Orb, Cat Empire, NWA, The Tallest man
on earth, Sublime, Nick Cave, Rae & Christian, Skindread, Roy
Budd, The Beautiful girls, Quannum, Pink Floyd, Parav Stelar,
Ninja Tunes stuff, Thomas Dalby, Fairport Convention, Dead
Kennedy's, Black Flag/Henry Rollins......my list goes on & on
From Sisters of Mercy to Dee-Lite.
To be honest I could do this for days....I love most music &
dont see music as classified styles I just see music I like &
music I dont.
It may have been quicker to list music I dont lol

All the rugby players use this character (guess that movie) as
their moral compass...
