Neil's alright...everytime the ships came back from deployment,
they were blaring Neil's "America" as they pulled into the
basin.
We didn't have an "official" song for when we pulled into
harbour after a deployment. As we were usually heading away on
leave, "We gotta get out of this place" was usually sung in the
mess.
I remember when the Sara pulled in after her Med Cruise right
after her CAP shot down a couple of Libyan fighters. As soon as
she approached the PA system started playing Neil's America, and
since then it was pretty much a staple at Mayport. Found out
that they had to stop due to some RIAA rules that they weren't
licensed to play the song. Grrr...
I was introduced to "The Eagles" by the US Navy. We were on a
NATO exercise in The North Sea and were taking on fuel at sea.
It's a bit like mid air refuelling but the ships steam side by
side. As we pulled up along side the US support ship, which acts
like a moving petrol station, a band started playing. They had
set up facing us and played Eagles numbers for the length of the
refuelling.
They were v good and it a very pleasant surprise, especially as
it was in autumn. I still listen to Eagles but not as often.
As a bonus, I doubt the RIAA ever found out.
:salute:

No, no, no.....for ultimate hair metal (how the bands wanted to
make it but weren't allowed to due to possibly 'offending
people' :sceptic:) check out Steel Panther.
Note: Parental Advisory....Don't play within earshot of young
'uns due to strong language and mysogynistic themes. It's played
for laughs and parody, but still...

EDIT: Saw these guys supporting Def Leppard and Motley Crue a
year or so ago at Sheffield Arena. The bloke next to me me had
obviously never heard of them before and was there just for Def
Leppard. He spent the whole SP set harrumping and shaking his
head in disgust, especially when we (me and mrs) started singing
along to 'Asian Hooker' and 'Fat Girl' etc.

Lets talk music

What do you guys listen to? Older gang here so interested to
hear if anyone listens to what I do.
I'll start. My gamertag comes from an online streaming music
station by the same name that plays electro industrial music. I
have listened to that style of music since high school starting
with Skinny Puppy. I listened to classic new wave music/goth
etc... The Cure, Depeche Mode, Smiths etc... My music tastes
have expanded in recent years.
My honest opinion of the greatest band in history.... no its not
Led Zeppelin. Tool. Better singer, better lyrics, better drummer
= GOAT band. Saw them in Toronto 3 years ago. Fantastic.
A good Tool song -

Last summer I saw The Cure in concert. Last time I saw them in
concert I was in high school 27 years earlier. They sounded the
same and were great.
Other bands frequently on my play list that you might recognize
are...
Rage Against the Machine
Nine Inch Nails
Bring Me The Horizon (British Metalcore band, saw them in
concert last summer with my kids).

Porcupine Tree -

That guy on drums is amazing in this band
Chevelle - Cause they remind me of Tool -

A Perfect Circle - Because of Maynard from Tool -

Same as Corbantis, for the most part.
I grew up listening C&W in Texas, but also listened to some of
what is now considered Classic Rock from the 60s/70s. I do like
older C&W, as I saw many of these artists in concert at the
Astrodome in Houston back in the day (Charlie Pride, Chrystal
Gayle, George Jones, etc).
Not much into the "new" rock - a lot of it just sounds the same
:puke:
Some of it is ok, though; I do like me some White Stripes.
My kids have turned me on to Dubstep, with bass drops and
crashes (Pendulum, deadmau5, and Elvira Kalnik come to mind).
My daughter is on the AcaDec team at school (just took 1st in
regionals), so part of their studying is about classical music.
While she's studying, I get to listen to a lot of Bach, Chopin,
Wagner, Beethoven, Mozart, Brahms, etc - beginning to develope
an appreciation there, as well.
So, pretty much anything, as long as it's not whiney, woe-is-me,
angst type crap.
