Why do tanks suck once I own them?
By: habfan70 Date: August 18, 2014, 7:37 am

Ok, now I'm talking specifically amour and penetration here,
nothing else. I know that I'm not the best tanker in the world
by a long shot, but it seems every time I come across a tank
that I think is good, as soon as I get it, it turns to paper
amour? Before I owned the T28, it was a beast, now I own it and
it seems that every shot at me pens, same with the Jadgtiger and
E-75, etc. Now I study and research weak spots and everything,
the only thing I don't do much is use premium rounds, does
anyone else find this to be the case for them?

Happens to me every time.
I think most of it is to do with running a stock tank and
comparing against the fully upgraded versions that have ripped
you a new one in the past.
The T29 is a good example. Stock=POS. Upgraded=beast.
Don't forget that there is a familiarity thing, too. Once you
have a few battles under your belt, you get an idea of how to
play that tank more effectively.
Just keep plugging away :charge:

I wondered if that may be the case, it has gotten better with
the T28 and E-75, I just was disappointed with the JadgTiger
when I first got it because I know the Armour doesn't change as
I upgrade, so I guess I just have to learn how to play it, maybe
I shouldn't be trying to take on the reds head-on all by myself
LOL :ammo:

My T28 is a beast. I can pen 9's all day with AP. People just
know where to shoot them. If you wiggle between shots, it will
help. You do not angle with a T28. your front armor is what
keeps you alive. Side shots will pen you like you have cardboard
for armor. Stare your opponent straight in the face and open up
the Whoop Ass!

Same goes for the Jagdtiger. Always face your enemy and go hull
down whenever possible. Your lower glacis is your Achilles heel.
A shot there can set you on fire easily.

With the JT, don't forget that you can angle your armor a little
as well since it has a pretty good gun traverse. Believe me
when you get the final gun on that thing it is a beast. Now the
JgPzE100...... That is another story..... I have a hate/hate
relationship with that thing-forget the love.

best thing i can tell you about the jagdtiger is to keep opfor
at least 2 to 3 shots in front of you use your view range and
accuracy

It's all about the feel of your vehicle...Love all German
TD's...got em down...worked hard thru German heavies...liked
them all except E-100...my goodness, I stink up the
battlefield...I don't have the heart to sell it...it would be
nice if WoT could let us free roam a map for 30 minutes before I
poop- out 6.1 million silver...a test drive...

Thanks for all the insight, I guess my tactic of :charge: head
on shall be revisited and I will start using it like I do most
of my other TDs...from a few steps back :snipe: and blow the
bejebus out of what ever I may see!!!

I think there are a couple of possible answers to this.
1) Limited experiential knowledge. The T-28 and T-95 can be
utter bears to defeat....if.....they are fighting in the right
tier match and in the right position in the battle. I am
guessing you ran into a T-28 as the same or lower tier...it was
not able to be flanked and it sat and demolished folks....what
you did not see is all the times the vehicle is the low tier, or
in a bad flanking position, abandoned by all, or when high pen
vehicles figure out you can kill this turkey from the front as
well (and yes the T-95 commander hatch is just as big a frontal
target by high tiers as any other).
2) I have found that when I get a new vehicle I try to drive it
like I think I saw it or it seems like it should play. I then
find my assumptions, even post reading, are totally off. At
some point a light goes on, and I say, oh that is how you play
it (best example M103).
All that said, I personally have a problem with the T-28, T-95,
and the JadgTiger. You can have amazing games in them, but they
all move slow, they turn terribly, if you want to change your
mind or change positions, it just sucks. I also think all three
have the most bouncy guns in the game. Inexplicably, despite
sides and backs showing, despite the reticle being closed like
an eye Mike Tyson just hit, bounce...bounce again.
I believe what attracts people the most to these guys are those
times that you see a big heavy, hit him from the front, and
boom, up goes a yellow number that says something like 777 or
900. People just get addicted to that. But in between those
times, for me, is a lot of pain and frustration.
Hang in there though, you will begin to optimize the experience
after some more play.
