What do you think of bigger platoons?

I ran a few games this afternoon with a bunch of OFFers in 6 and
7 member platoons. We got our asses kicked in one or two, won a
couple easily, and had some very tight matches.
One observation - we were running Tier V and Tier VI and the
heavies really predominated in platoons - especially the KV-1
and KV-1S. One 14vs 14 game on Mountain Pass the Reds had six of
each on their team while we had a more balanced mix of TDs,
mediums, heavies of both tiers. We got our asses kicked,
especially on the glacier corner. They came around in force,
three or four would fire at one target and blow it to kingdom
come, then while they ducked back to reload another batch would
decimate the next target in a second or two.
I think these bigger platoons are going to see the heaviest
tanks and TD's dominate. I'm a medium driver in the main and my
life expectancy was short in every game we played except the one
where I took out my T-14 for 3 kills including the match-winner.
For now, and unless I decide to re-jig my garage to include more
heavies, I think I'll be steering clear of platoons of 4+.
I'm hoping this means that the nasty KVs and other tough-to-kill
heavies/TDs will be making less of an appearance in 3-/random
games, which could lead to some happy hunting in normal
matchmaking for us medium drivers.

Haven't even tried to get on since this afternoon but atleast it
sounds like the larger platoons are getting into games. Looks
like I'm good in battle running my vodka powered monsters the
KV's :gunning:

Interested to see how many goofy platoons we see -- 5 artys,
etc. -- and how long they'll last.
But can see how coordinated attacks like the one you describe
will just own the battlefield for a while until folks adapt. And
PC players who have done platoon/clan battles will definitely
have an advantage, as they know key tactics and are used to
working together.
It's gonna take some work to get used to it, and certainly won't
be for everyone, though. I fear lights will be obsolete. And I
like my lights...

I think platoon battles will be the realm of heavys.
we tried mediums and TD's with mixed results.
The problem is you don't know the map or how many people you
are facing......
so no borsig, or t95 too inflexible in the way you need to
fight them.

It almost sounds like you need to equip platoons like you would
for team battles. Mostly heavies witha sdpotter an a medium.

very early in the game......
Lights may be obsolete too early to tell. Arty is definately a
tough call.

I have to say other than the longer queue time I'm loving it.
Definitely allows for more focused tactics but you still have to
watch what the other platoons are doing.
