       Controller Issues - HELP!
By: Maddog STS Date: March 9, 2018, 7:21 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Last night, after playing for about 1.5hrs, my controller died.
I was able to restart it a couple times, but it would turn
itself off in about 30 seconds. After about the 3rd restart, it
wouldn't come on at all. Before that, it was fine. Thinking weak
batteries, I swapped in a fresh pair, but it won't even power
       up.
       :scream:
Anyone else have this issue before, and what, if any, is the
fix? Is there a reset button on it somewhere that I overlooked?
The controller is practically new - it was purchased with the
One back in 10/2016, but just now getting used within the last
month - maybe 12-16 actual playing hours on it.

Xbox One? Have you run the controller update?
Dunno if that will help, but asking that first......

From what I've observed so far, it updates automatically. If
this is not the case, how does one prompt the update?

Was not aware that this was an option on these things - thought
they were wireless, period. Is it a controller specific cable,
or an Android device cable, or...?
Thank you both for your responses! :thumb:

In the One Box,you should have received a cable that you connect
the controller directly to the XBox. One end is a USB to
connect to the XBox and one to your controller.
       Should look like this.....
  HTML https://i.imgur.com/zZGckjNl.jpg
       1. Plug the big end of the included USB cable into the port on
the left side of the console, around the corner from the disc
       tray.
       2. Plug the small end of the USB cable into the top of the
       controller.
       3. Instructions to install the update should automatically
appear. Follow the instructions, and don’t disconnect the USB
cable while the update is in progress. (The process can take up
       to 3 minutes.)
If instructions to install the update don’t automatically
appear, you can start the process manually. To do this, press
the Xbox button to open the guide, select System > Kinect &
devices > Devices & accessories, and then select the controller
you want to update. Select Device info, select the Firmware
version box, and then select Continue.
When the update is complete, unplug the USB cable. If you have
additional controllers to update, connect them now, one at a
time, select the Update another button on the screen, and then
       follow the steps.

Maddog, my understanding is the controller has to be connected
via USB to do updates. I've not confirmed it but have heard
       others say it.

Wow! Never new the controllers had updates... Hope you get it
       figured out.
Thankfully the 360 controllers do not need updates..

I updated on the One and X and only had to do it one time for
each.....it ain't like you have to go back and do it frequently.

Matt, thank you. I'll see if this One came with that cable; if
not, it looks like an Android cable, of which I have plenty. I
do recall an update happening after updating WoT when I first
got back on the One from the initial download back in Nov 2016.
I'll try this and see what happens.
