Cutting the cord.... looking for input
By: oxidative stres Date: September 18, 2017, 1:03 pm

I finally think that i have convinced my Luddite wife to cut the
cord... Right now I have and will continue to have Netflix and
Amazon.....
For my cable substitute, I am looking at either Hulu Live or
Playstation Vue....
Based on our viewing habits, I really need a DVR of some type
and access to local feeds for NBC/CBS/Fox/ABC hence the Hulu and
Vue. I really like that the Vue can do 5 devices
simultaneously. My main issue with Hulu is no AMC (Walking
Dead) and BBC America...
Anyone have these services or other services?..
Looking for recommendations....

I'm sure with your location, you could easily pick up your local
affiliates with an antennae. Roof or pole mount is best but I've
heard of people also placing them in their attic. All the
signals are HD and even the old antennae's still work. Mine came
with the house and still works great, except the booster went
out and my local signals are close to 90 miles away.

Oxi - My family did this about a year and a half ago. Best
move. We have Amazon Prime, Netflix, and we run the Amazon
Fire Stick (cough, cough) jailbroke mode. The app we use is
KODI which has Every TV series, new and old, just about any
movie ever made. 2 things if you decide to do this: 1) need
super internet service. I use Spectrum and typical get between
35-50 Mbs download, 10-20 upload for about 60/month. 2) You
will need to use an internet proxy service because some ISP's
will throttle it if they believe you are not paying for certain
streaming services. So much for Net Neutrality! bastards! On
new release movies, its best to wait a month to view a decent
stream. Good Luck!

Check out Sling TV. It has pretty much all the basic cable
channels.

I cut the cord in Dec 2016, and haven't looked back since. I was
with Verizon phone, cable internet was paying about $200 per
month when u added in the cable box fees etc. so I upped my
internet to 100up/100down, added Netflix, Hulu and amazon prime,
bought 1 amazon fire tv box and 2 fire sticks, have the fire tv
box and my Xbox hard wire with cat5, kids love Netflix and
Amazon, wife like Hulu. Bought a 30mile range Flat HD antenna
for each of the 3 tv's and I get 24channels Over the air, NBC,
abc, cbs get, etc. currently pay $91 per month. I don't count
amazon as we would pay that for prime shipping regardless. But
saving $100 and I don't miss a thing. More and more apps are
coming out monthly for tv and streaming guides. I do not DVR as
we are now happy with being a week or so behind with Hulu.

A combination of streaming and OTA is one of my methods.

I cut the cord over 18 months ago and have not had a single
regret. I have tried sling and Playstation vue and I find that
PSV is much easier to use than sling. PSV has just about every
thing you want. even local channels.
