Matt, I don't want it to seem like we are friends or anything,
but did you see they released the specs for the Scorpio? Not
sure what it all means, but I want some. Couldn't imagine
playing Forza 7 on this....

Project Scorpio will feature:
- eight custom x86 cores clocked at 2.3GHz
- 40 customized Radeon compute units running at 1172MHz
- 12GB of GDDR5 memory
- a 1TB hard drive
- 4K UHD Blu-ray optical drive
- and a memory bandwidth of 326GB/s
Could a techie give us some perspective on this?
I was reading that people are disappointed with the CPU they put
in this thing. Others are saying that it is the same one that
the PS4 Pro uses, which will help with crossplatform alignment.
Wouldn't that be something if we are all one big happy family
some day?

Mid range gaming PC specs.X86 cores are used for better backward
compatibility of certain o/s,programs and features.GDDR5 memory
is the memory used on the graphic side of things as apposed to
what you see in pc memory as there is no such speed.Its
overclocked DDR3 which has been out for around 7-8 years now.The
GPU/CPU is an interesting aspect as it gives room for more power
to be used in the GPU this time for better gaming and frame
rates.I think a 1TB HDD 2.5 is as tight as a camels arse in a
sandstorm and why not bank some SSD drives instead.Surely 2TB
should be used as we all like to fill our drives with whatever
we want without deleting nothing to make room.All in all a mid
range dx12 gaming pc which is around x4/5 faster than the first
gen xbox one but has only about a 30% increase in basic CPU
operations clock speed .Integrated psu so no power brick but
will heat be an issue or the noise factor in cooling it
down.Optical drive is pretty standard stuff and the layout of
the connections at the rear are the same as the s version.Faster
specs than the new ps console by some margin.

I wonder if they aren't scaling back on the hardware to keep the
purchase price down. What would one expect to pay for a PC of
this quality??

I am interested in what your opinion is as well. Also, will
this unit be worth the upgrade? Perhaps wait until 2018 to see
if and when all the bugs are worked out?

Waiting for the bugs to be worked out can be a smart play, but
you wont get holiday pricing on it. I am guessing they may
offer trade-ins, black friday specials, holiday bundles..etc..
You would be looking at taking 2, maybe 2 and a quarter off =
only paying about 400, with those specs, is pretty damned good
for a gaming pc. Again the console is fixed, whereas the pc is
modular and components can be upgraded individually. 6 in
one, half a dozen in the other.... :sceptic:

Agreed, I use to play very heavily on the PC, but I now
prefer the console, as to why, just my personal preference.
Also, the house computer is used by the kids for school work and
learning, by the wife for lists, Pinterest and she's the church
secretary.....so I bought the console as mine. Nice 60" screen,
comfy recliner, so the trade off is worth it.
I find the graphics are great and the social aspect is a
bonus, platooning with you jackasses can and is very
entertaining! I am really considering this console, because I
feel there will be some great trade-in/upgrade deals and with
some work I have been accomplishing at work, the bonus should be
enough for the Scorpio and a small family vacation......

I'm definitely waiting. At least 1 year after launch I might
start to consider it.
