Lack of Arty Support!

Had a great exchange on Sand River between myself in a T28
prototype and a tanker in an M44 American arty.
I am at 1/2 health from being clipped twice by opfor arty and I
am working over a Tiger II. I pen, he bounces, call for fire, I
pen, he hits for a few, call for fire. Arty tags me again,
tracking me. The Tiger II comes out from around his cover, call
for fire again, and I bounce. He bounces also. He drives toward
me, passing me by and shooting me in the back 1 second before I
finish my reload.
I say on the Mic... Jeez Arty, how is it the 3 of you just let
this Tiger roll up on me like that?
The guy in the M44 responds with: T28 prototype, the M44 has a
long reload and is very inaccurate.
I respond with: I am well aware of the M44 since I am I am on
the M12 right now.
He responds with: This is not the M12. It is the M44.
I respond with: I know it is not the M12. It is the tier 6 arty
I had to grind to get the piece I have now.
He responds with: Well... then you know how inaccurate it is and
how hard it is to hit stuff...
I respond with: Well, the red M44 has 4 (f-o-u-r). kills.
:gunning:
His mic must have run out of battery because he did not say
anything else. :sceptic:

I had a similar experience last night in my KV-1S with the 122,
on Mountian Pass.
From the N spawn, I swept the far R side with the help of one
other heavy that died. I noticed that the OPFoR broke through in
the bridge and I swept down the ledge to help, but it got
contained. I started to head up the incline to the opposite
flag and came upon 2 platooning TOGs at the top of the incline.
I took a few shots at them and from them and retreated, covering
as much as I could and proceeded to call for Arty support.
Needless to say there were only 4 tanks left on the OPFor and 5
on ours. I couldn't think of a more enticing Arty Target then 2
TOGs right next to each other. The Arty was in perfect position
and I did not get one shell lobbed in at them before I died
(over a period of 2.5 minutes). With that vicious reload time,
I could handle 1 TOG, but not 2. He want miked up so needless to
say, this generated a hate mail.... :snarl:

Other then the BS on the reload I do have to say I've given up
on the arty line I was on due to accuracy. I'd get a game or two
where yeah I'd be hitting well and then spend the rest of the
day not able to hit the broad side of barn bleeping parked in
it.

I've pretty much given up playing my arty since the last big
update. It's now so inaccurate that more than half the time the
shell hits outside the reticule area even if I let it close down
entirely. On a GW Panther!
That said, Faethor one-shotted my T-20 in his new GW Tiger last
night, so maybe I'm just crap. :arty:

I play a bit of arty to give myself a change of pace. I try and
be very aware of what's going on and at least notice every
single time a team mate calls for fire. Arty has a hard and
often thankless job, but the main responsibility is SUPPORT.
Those that are only looking for damage and are past tier III
should know this. My tier VIII is a game changer if I use it
correctly, so I really try hard to shoot where I'll make the
most difference rather than just going after the low hanging
fruit.

In arty defense, Mountain Pass is a hard map to get good shots
in. No excuses on Sand River though.
I had a game once on Mali Assault where something like 10 tanks
on my team decided to climb the hill by the church. I focused my
M12 on helping the weak side. Needless to say we lost and a guy
blamed me for not helping take out a Black Prince on the hill
that they were calling hits on. I didn't even notice. We ended
up getting into a argument about it and since then I have
started to spread my arty love around as much as I can. BTW,
that game I put down more damage than the rest of my team
combined, so blaming me was kinda BS, but I still saw the point.
Moral of the story for me is that being good at arty is part
skill, part politician.

Where I was, I was protected from enemy arty for the most part
by the south east plateau. The tiger was in cover as well. where
I was was a straight shot for our arty to hit. We had 3 of them
on our team. Zero kills between them. Enemy arty had 8 kills
total.

I'd say Jarhead and I lost 2-3 games last night due to our arty
drivers (And their were multiple in each match) being totally
useless. And these matches were on "arty-friendly" maps.

I only count on arty for one reason...the opposing side to KILL
me and ours to let everyone kill me. Most people that play artys
don't have a clue what they're doing and just suck balls at it.
I don't play arty often, in fact the only time I play arty is
when my wife wants help with hers, and I do a decent job
covering when I can and keeping on the move so as not be
detected every shot I make. It is a thankless job for the most
part, but when everyone does their part the matches go better.
As arty I look for the bigger kills to take out as they cause
the most headache for my teams and then start working on lights,
problem is most people don't nail the lights so they get by and
kill me...it's a vicious cycle.
