Quite suprised Wot have not done anything special for the battle
of the bulge 16th December.Something on the lines of a few ops
for German and allied tanking.Even rolling through bastogne or
the ardennes forest in thick fog. What are your thoughts?

Just the thing for SNS this Saturday?
Tier VI Shermans vs Tigers/Hammers and Tiger II's. The Germans
assault first with the Allies defending and thenthe other way
around?
Since there are now lots of snow maps, this might even look
authentic.

Discussions about the tanks used in the Battle of the Bulge are
often erroneous. They normally center around the “sexy”
Panthers, Tigers and Tiger IIs. Most German tanks used were
assault guns – the variants of the StuG being most used - and
also a large number of PzIVs, then progressively lower numbers
of Panthers, Tigers and Tiger IIs. There were units spearheaded
with Panthers and a few Tigers, but most of the follow up
vehicles were the much more common “unsexy” PzIVs and assault
guns.
The main issue which caused them to structure their tank use
this way was fuel consumption and heavy tank reliability, which
relegated the big tanks to reserve roles waiting for the
breakout (and capture of Allied fuel supplies) towards Antwerp.
As an example, a Tiger II used a gallon of fuel to go 800
meters…if it didn’t breakdown.
Eventually, when the Allied troops were able to turn the tide,
they ran into the vehicles held in reserve, but a lot of them
were abandoned, immobile due to lack of fuel or decimated by
allied air power.
A lot of verbiage, but I thought I would mention this when we
are considering the make-up of an SNS.

I'm aware there were many other types of tanks at the battle,
but balancing more than 2-3 types a side is a pain in the ass,
hence the Sherman/Firefly/Boilermaker vs Tiger I/Hammer and
Tiger II lineup.
*Edit. Maybe we can sprinkle a few Tier V Germans in and have
fewer VII and VIIIs.
