       Intrepid

Finally a few minutes to report.
Friday night my son James and I went to the WG Let's Battle Tour
in New York. We got there WAY too early and I tried to stroll
in like I owned the joint. After all, I was on the stern
line-handling crew that brought the ol' lady here in '82 from
Bayonne. We got snagged by the only security guard paying
attention. So we rambled off to a joint two blocks away.
Around 5 we sauntered back (God love NYC...where else would they
serve beer to a kid 4 years below the legal limit?)
A group of lunatics was collecting at the end of the pier: Guys
who looked they were having Vietnam flashbacks, fat bastards who
haven't seen the sun in months, Nerds of all shapes and sizes
and even a few chunky chicks. The most boisterous group was a
clan of old guys who must be on the pc. They all had some
article of clothing which showed three upside down exclamation
marks. They said the clan name once, but I didn't get it. They
were hollerin' that it was unwise to make old men who've been
drinking beer all afternoon wait so long to get in to a
bathroom. It didn't work. They waited with the rest of us.
There were a couple WG luminaries that I would probably know if
I paid attention to such things. The mood was festive and they
tossed a few hats and shirts out to the crowd. At exactly 6 pm
they let us in and checked us for weapons ( naturally I got a
knife past 'em twice- probably the same clowns who work TSA )
Inside were the usual exhibits in the hangar deck and we filed
through getting a few codes, a raffle ticket, free shirt and
some bingo scheme where you do facebook etc. things to get some
prize...really should have had someone techie with me. :palm:
There were three large banks of screens where you could play
WOT-PC, WOW-PC, Blitz and Console- in the form of PS4. My son
and I sat down in the back row with the PS4s and rocked some
lovely armor I've only dreamed of: Borsig, Lowe, Patton, Walker
       Bulldog, FCM 36 PaK 40 (don't ask-I dunno why)
We would probably have stayed there all night because there were
very few people wanting console. My son said, "look at the PC
version- it so much clearer and faster"...well, I didn't think
it was that much better and I'll be damned if I'm using a
       keyboard to drive a tank
The World of Warships Did look cool, though.
There were at least 300 nerds in there at any moment. They had
an open bar so I started putting away Stellas. There were
little chicken sandwiches, the cutest little bacon cheeseburgers
and good potato chips. My son is not the biggest tanker. He's
more an Overwatch kinda guy so he started getting bored and
tired. I took the hint and we bailed early before the raffle.
It was fun, but if I ever go again it would be with a few of you
       tankers.

Very cool! Thanks for the report. Hopefully they can hold one
down in Orlando - then perhaps most of us can attend.
Of course - if I could catch the ear of the Jags owner we could
       have a convention on this:
