Same as Jake. Charcoal only. Lighter fluid must never be used.
Start your charcoal with a flue (sp?)

Gas. Because I want to eat sooner rather than later.

Called a chimney starter. And yes -- lighter fluid is for n00bs.

I use a chimney and some paraffin soaked oak sawdust.
If it takes 15-25 minutes for the coals to get ready, I figure I
can get 2-3 beers down in that amount of time :troll:

Both have advantages, but for flavor charcoal wins. I currently
have a Weber charcoal grill, and I'm going to invest in a WeberQ
gas unit (the 1200). I like the bigger charcoal grill for when
we have people over and on weekends. The smaller, gas WeberQ is
for weeknights when I don't want to wait for coals but still
       want to grill out.
You may also notice that I recommend Weber =]
I like using a chimney to light coals. Couple sheets of
newspaper with a couple tablespoons of olive or veggie oil on it
works great to light them up.

Got a 14 year old Weber that's starting to show it's age ...
replaced the top grill a few years back but now that bottom flue
thingie won't shut properly since one of the blades fell off.
We use it all year and it's left out in the elements so I think
it served us damn well. :salute:
this is the thing that heats up the coals...they got 'em in Home
       Depot for like 12 bucks
just be careful you don't BRAND anyone with it

Weber seems to be the general theme. I have a 10 year old
Stainless Genesis with a side burner, like Guderian, I keep it
out all year in the New England weather (until this year) and it
is still in prime shape. Plus their customer service is the
best. 2 years in, I had 2 welds detach on one of the grates.
Called customer service and they sent me a New set of 2...no
       questions asked.
If I want extra flavor I make my own smoke pouches with chips
(apple, mesquite, cherry) using aluminum foil and put it under
       the grates in a corner.
