The Great Artillery Debate

Over the past couple days it's come to my attention that we have
some players that aren't big fans of artillery. No problem
there - we all have things we find annoying about WoT.
We also have some members (including a couple new ones) that
play artillery as their prefered tank. Also no problem there -
we all have different things we like.
The problem we DO have is that some of our members that don't
like arty are getting so vocal about it that I've heard members
talking about leaving OFF because they feel like they aren't
welcome here.
This is a problem.
So I thought perhaps we could hash this out a little and come to
an agreement that lets everyone get along. I think we have 2
key points:
1) Let's all keep in mind that when we're complaining about arty
that we should be careful to remember not to go over the top.
2) If you have someone running arty in your platoon, you WILL
face arty on the other team every battle. Some OFFers like the
occasional break from arty you get every 3-5 matches when you
have a platoon that doesn't include arty. How do we make sure
everyone in a platoon is cool with having arty support in the
platoon?

Red artillery is evil.
Green artillery is my friend.

Honestly, as a guy who loves his lights, I don't mind having
arty in a platoon. In fact, they are more than welcome for
Friday Night Lights (starts around 9 pm central on Friday
nights, and I alternate systems; this week is on the One).
I also am okay with arty players in general as long as they are
the type who stand their ground at the end of a match, rather
than drowning themselves. Seriously -- if someone plays a lot of
arty and suicides often, they can go ahead and leave the clan
IMHO. The green team got beat, so take your incoming beatdown
like a man/woman or go play Minecraft. There is no place for
suiciding douche canoes in this clan.
That being typed, I think arty players also need to consider the
makeup of their platoon. If the other four players are in
slowish heavies, then maybe they should choose a different tank
... ? Some consideration has to go the other way, too.
Just my $.02. Keep the change.

No one.... I repeat NO ONE should feel that they need to leave
OFF because they feel uncomfortable....... Everyone should feel
free to run the tanks that they a want to and feel comfortable
running..... Now, if a platoon is upfront about what they are
running and/or it is an event, like Thunderpack Thursdays, then
the member should try and accommodate.
Now... I know that some platoons can get pretty "rambunctious"
and platoon mates should take much of this witty (????) banter
with a grain of salt...
My personal opinion..... I hate arty, except when they are in my
platoon... Because I know that I have one covering may ass......

I play arty and love it. It's not as easy as people claim
it to be, and those complaining about it usually do not know how
to play arty "safe". It's part of the game, grow up - grow a
pair and move on.
I try my hardest to support my platoon mates, when in arty,
and be helpful not a hindrance. I have seen enough good arty
players to know they can turn the tide of a battle. If I notice
a light trying to take our arty out and I am close enough, I
will do my best to kill the little bastard!

OFF is a ball-busting clan. We bust each others balls (cuz at
our age, they aren't good for much else) and rag on each other
much as we can.
Platoon mates are free to run whatever tanks they like, but we
may rub it in your face because that's whet we do. However, it
isn't at all personal.
There are certain characters in the clan who are a 'joy' to
platoon with; Ruggers and Squiggy for example. These guys rant
and rave about every single thing, from arty, to water, playing
drunk among many other things, but they are as funny as hell and
OFF would be poorer without them.

surely with average age of over 100 (sorry if you youngsters
aint caught up ) it can be discussed between us within platoon .
1 If you know arty is on the map move accordingly .
2 if you see arty round in air tell your arty direction it came
from
3 once he has shot how long is his reload chance to move ?
I hope that no one has offended anyone else for being in OFF
arty .pretty poor tankers if this is the case

Ditto to what Oxi said. The animosity towards arty isn't
directed to our folks who run it. Its directed towards the
Reds(because we are their targets), and those Greens who don't
use arty properly. Don't think its personal. We all bust each
others chops here. If someone gives you grief over running an
arty, have them munch on some Nutella.

I pretty much exclusively play heavies, arties favorite targets,
my wife plays exclusively artillery. That being said, when arty
is targeting me and trust me I do feel targeted, I do say things
like F&*K artillery and she knows I mean the red ones, because
when a good arty players sees the arty fire, they return fire
when they can, like she does. I consider myself, in any heavy
tank the arty hunter and I take great pride in killing arty when
I can, one shot and it's done. I will complain when there are
three arties on my team...all covering the same side of the map,
spread out and spread the love or I will get vocal and what a
crap set of arty players you are. There are people that say
"arty can make or break a game", I disagree to an extent, we're
all in this game together and need each other to preform the
task at hand, killing reds. Oh, and like TKE said, if you kill
yourself, you are in fact a douche canoe and I think you should
uninstall WoT and go play mine craft, just my thoughts on the
subject.
