Whats is (or) was your occupation.

I was just curious about what occupation our clan members are
in or worked in. What projects they have worked on and such.
Personally I was a Journeyman Machinist Engineer until I retired
early last year do to health problems. I have had opportunities
to work on so many great projects over my career. Here is one of
the best projects I had worked on. Not so much the project but
the opportunity to work with 2 of my kids on it before I
       retired.
I worked for Edgar Industries in New Kensington PA. I was the
lead on a 12 hr night shift. At the time two of my sons were
working for Edgar's. My eldest had been there for about 2 years
and other son had just started. Both were hired out of high
school and both were working in the Apprenticeship program for
Journeyman Machinist. I was a "proud pappy" being able to work
on such a part program with my boys thanks to Mr. Edgar.
Although they did not do the machining, they did spend a lot of
hours benching the part in the final stages.

Just a little bit about the part, Edgar Industries was given
the opportunity by the aerospace/space exploration industry to
provide design and execution for a Lunar Lander base plate. We
built the deck plate by way of horizontal CNC milling, hollowing
the cumbersome 2200-lb. deck plate slab out of 6061 T6 aluminum
with a Toshiba BF 130B in order to reduce weight to a mere
250-lb. plate. The final dimensions came out to be 10 foot by 10
foot square, with a wall thickness at the base of the pockets
coming out to be a slender .079 inches. There were about 1100
pockets machined into the plate and 2200 holes, some drilled
       some taped.
( Below, this was posted on Carnegie Mellon University site, I
copied the information for the facts. )
As part of a bid to claim the Google Lunar X Prize, Carnegie
Mellon University and Astrobotic Technology have completed
structural assembly work on a lunar lander designed to deliver a
roving robot to the surface of the moon in 2014. Taking off from
Cape Canaveral, the lander will ride on a SpaceX Falcon 9
rocket, which had a successful maiden flight last year, on its
four-day journey to the moon. The craft will attempt a pinpoint
landing, which would be a significant achievement. After
deploying, the solar-powered, four-wheeled Red Rover will beam
HD video in 3D to Earth as it explores the moon's Sea of
Tranquility. The Astrobotic-CMU team wants to reach the Apollo
11 landing site, which hasn't been seen directly in 40 years
(though NASA has imaged it), and film it in HD. The $30 million
Lunar X Prize is aimed at fostering the first private launch
that sends a robot to the moon. It has to travel some 500 yards
and send video, images, and data to Earth. The 5-foot-tall,
half-ton aluminum lander has solar panels that can provide 500
watts of power, rechargeable batteries, eight thrusters, and
four fuel tanks carrying almost 2 tons of propellant. It will be
able to carry the 173-pound Red Rover, which is mostly covered
with solar panels under its camera mast, as well as 242 pounds
of commercial payload. The lander is set to be tested for
structural integrity at a Boeing facility in El Segundo, Calif.
I have post a few pics of the project. There is no date set
yet as to when the journey is to be made, however I will keep
       you posted.

I was formerly a journeyman machinist as well (CNC 3/4/5 Axis).
Did some programming but mostly on the fly G/M code alterations,
and all critical part setups. I had the lowest kill rate in the
shop all years I was on the floor. Was the lead machinist on the
floor when I was moved to the front office. We made parts for
military aircraft (F-22, C-17, C-130, etc). After 9/11, we were
the ones who developed and manufactured the armor plating for
humvees (door armor and gunner shields, as well as skid plates).
Saw some pretty cool stuff come through. We also did some
Gulfstream stuff before the economic downturn. I loved the
machinist work, but moving to the front office forced my hand to
       look for another career.
After that, I got into IT, where I still reside. I worked for
two MSP's before settling down in my current position. I am now
the SysAdmin for the industrial ethernet network at a local
Water System. I manage about 40 servers and 60 desktops.
Unfortunately I dont have pics to share lol

I am a Customhouse Broker - we clear freight through Customs and
       often arrange delivery for importers.
My family has been doing this since 1920.
Believe it or not, there was an era when the government worked
and the job was almost interesting!
Now most Customs agents hide anonymously behind bulletproof
glass and refuse to get anything done.
Forget about getting a name or even a badge number anymore.
FDA and most other mandated gov't agency have devised ways to
clog the flow of commerce with useless requirements in a
misguided effort to "protect the country" - while any evil frig
with half a brain could slip around the layers of bureaucratic
       nonsense
still wonder why I drink? :drunkdance:

I'm a hotel General Manager, in the industry for 30 odd years,
currently looking for opportunities so any leads would be
       appreciated!

       Very cool job!
I've been a writer for a financial services company for 13 years
-- I create articles, blogs, and guides on personal finance
issues for military families, some ghostwritten for executives,
some with my name. Even wrote an award-winning book for military
spouses, and have had my stuff published all over the place
(Stars and Stripes, Fox News, San Diego Union-Tribune, and a few
       others).
We also do some fun stuff (e.g., a post on military dogs, a
video on military formal etiquette that was shared about 40,000+
times from MilitaryTimes.com) and I do other PR-ish type stuff,
but I really enjoy helping folks learn to better manage their
       money.
Which is funny, as I'm a cheap-ass bastard who's not allowed
near his own checkbook.

Me too, Mark! She took the checkbook in '96 and that was all
       for me.
My way of balancing a checkbook was to write a check and stroll
two blocks to the bank to transfer the amount into checking...
the fact that Snooky's Pub was on the way to the bank was a
       happy coincidence

Really interesting stuff... We have quite a diverse group of
       guys and gals!
I am an Environmental/ Wildlife Toxicologist and Analytical
Laboratory Director at the University of Connecticut. I started
out running projects to assess mercury and PCB contamination in
game fish for the Sate of CT to evaluate consumption advisories.
Moved from there to a little of everything...air toxics,
evaluating contaminants and health impacts in Sea Ducks (got
paid to do a little hunting!), soil and groundwater
investigations using direct push "drill" rigs, to now running a
       group of analytical chemistry laboratories.
Squiggy bait----Most of my recent work is in support of the
Damage Assessment associated with the Deep Water Horizon/ Gulf
of Mexico Oil spill. We have been evaluating the impacts of the
DWH in peregrine falcons, small fish, wading birds, pelicans,
and sea turtles. We also did a couple of huge projects with a
group call Oceans Alliance and their 5 year global sperm whale
survey, where we assessed contaminants in over 300 biopsies from
sperm whales (unfortunately i did not get to go on this
       trip.....sad)
Some pictures when I actually used to get out from behind a
desk.... Drilling (not me... I am taking the picture)
