I had a '95 Mustang that put 492HP/483TQ to the wheels (dyno)
before I had kids. Does that count?

Nope. No Fords. No Chevies. No Chryslers. Nope, not sports
       cars.
But I understand why you would believe your car to be sporty.
When younger I had two cars, an early right-hand drive Ford
Cortina converted into an awesome hill climb race car, I thought
it was a sports car, but nope, had a back seat (well, until I
replaced it with the roll cage required for hill climb racers).
And my Renault R-10 racing sedan. FOUR doors. But fast and
nimble as all get out. Not a sports car, although I raced WITH
sports cars. But mentions sports cars around all the REAL
sports car owners and they would remind me I was driving a
grocery getter. Even after I thrashed half the field. The
       nerve!

Ah ha - 60 Biscayne! Thanks - I knew it wasn't an Impala, but
couldn't remember all of the model names.

Yep 1960 Biscayne 235 inline 6 with the cast iron powerglide.
nearly terminal cancer (illinois car from birth: road salt) It
has more holes in it than Obama's foreign policy. Going
traditional custom with it w/ crossflow head 250 chevy six
banger with supercharger and 5 speed as a drive train.

Not sure if I totally agree with you on the definition of a
sports car. I think if you have to be a 5 year old to fit in the
backseat and the gas mileage, lack of trunk space and tire
blistering performance hampers everyday drivability, then you
have a sports car/ muscle car. I dont agree that it can only be
2 seat, front engine, rear wheel drive to be a Sports car. Heres
       another list,

,sadly my car is not on it. The little brother to Stage8's car.
I own a Red 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX All-Wheel Drive Turbo
with aftermarket gauges, stage 3 clutch and cold air intake
running 13lbs of boost. 2.0 litre engine putting out 230hp. Oh
did I mention my car has 198,000 miles. :)

should be wild with manual steering.

I don't care what anyone says, I had to pay a $1,000 "Gas
Guzzler" tax when I bought mine so...IT'S A SPORTS CAR!!!

By the beginning description of what a sports car is, you could
call my 1990 Ford Ranger a sports car, 2 seater, real wheel
drive, and it's even a 5 speed standard transmission. ahhh there
are days that I love that POS, she's fun to work on and drive
and when I smoke other vehicles that think they're bad ass, I
get a little smirk every time.
