Finally got a Tier 9

The M103. I didn't really love this tank, playing against it.
You know what I mean, there are tanks out there that you shoot
or that stomp you into the ground and you think "man... i can't
wait to get that tank". Well this wasn't one of them. But I
loved my T29 and T32 so much that the grinds were fun(er) than
the Tiger 2 and Panther 2 has been. So i got there soonest.
Anyways, here is the part where I tell you about first reaction
to getting the M103. Hang on a sec... gotta clean up, just threw
up on myself. I know, I know, it'll get better. OH MY GOD I hope
so. The first 4 battles were total obliteration by other
players. I mean I'd roll up, middle to back of the pack and it
was like everyone knew I was newly into this tank... "wait a
minute, what's that back there? a brand new shiny M103... licks
chops and pulls trigger"
I gave up and used free xp to get the first upgrade. I really
truly honestly try and grind out at least two thirds of the way
so i can know what I am skipping. So i can appreciate the
upgrade. But man. Dropping into these tier 9/10 battles against
E100's, IS7's, Death Stars, hell even Tiger 2's were punching me
and I was just skipping shells off them all. Which by the way...
those shells i was skipping... 1000 silver each. So when you get
blown up right away and you skip 5/6 shells, you are going into
your own pocket for 10k silver each round.
Now i see why there is such a need for low to mid tier money
makers... now i get it. I think i'll focus on those guys a lot
more lately :coin:
Anyways... happy tanking and if you read this, thanks for
letting me rant. No matter the bitching and complaining i do...
i love this game :thumb:

Nickels - Man, I absolutely love that tank..... Even stock, I
didn't mind it too much.
Since you don't have the little machine gun on top, you are
definitely picked on.
The main thing that I would recommend --- Never stop moving your
turret, until you are ready to get your shot off. Repeat....
Never stop moving your turret. That commanders hatch is where I
do the most damage to newer drivers. In a fully upgraded 103, I
can do 375-400 damage with a hatch shot.
Also the side of your turret is pretty vulnerable. The front of
your turret is pretty beastly at 254mm. This is greater than the
pen on the top gun of the E75, so make sure that you have your
turret pointed towards the action. Don't forget to wiggle
though.

and a T95 I can run

Thanks for the advice OX and i know it is just growing pains.
What do you mean i can't be a badass immediately when i get the
new tank?!?!!? I have to earn it????

Also treat the 103 as a Medium Class Heavy. You can't get into a
toe to toe slugfest with most of the Heavies out there. So use
your speed to your advantage, duck and weave.
Think Rocky vs. Clubber Lang. Study up on the weak spots on the
tanks you will be facing in a 9-10 match so you can find the
sweet spots to smack 'em hard. :shades:

It's stories like this that make me think stopping at tier VII
or so might be best for me. Just too much possibility of losing
tons of silver each match at those tiers. (Same reason I have
avoided the Chaffee like the plague.)
Of course, it'd be a year or so before I ever made it to a IX,
so ...

TKE919, if you don't mind me asking... so then what do you do
when you reach Tier 7 on a tank line? Pick another line to go up
or have you already researched them all? Just curious

Honestly?
Not a clue.

I still get in high tier games with my JT 8.8, and do intend on
going up the German arty line quite a ways. It's just that the
fail teams are soooo much more painful at those levels due to
the odds of losing silver each match. In fact, that's why I
haven't progressed up the AT or British heavy lines past tier V,
despite having them unlocked, and rage sold the one tier VII I
had (the M12, U.S. arty), as it was costing 10K each match due
it sucking like few tanks I've played have ever sucked.
Granted, a good craftsman never blames his tools. So thank
goodness I'm not one ...

I also don't play every day — more of a weekend warrior type,
with a weeknight sprinkled in here and there — and don't run
premium time nearly as much as is needed to get XP faster.
That'll make it a REALLY long slog to get to those upper tiers
unless I just pick one and run it over and over and over again.
All of this could change, of course: I could win the lottery and
get a year of premium, find some more free time during
weeknights, maybe even learn to play the game better and stop
sucking at it so much ...

I am in a similar boat... I only play maybe an hour or so a
night on the weeknights. then weekends i get to spend a few more
hours at it.
Since the summer hit i have less a$$ time in front of the TV
then before.
I unlocked the GWPanther but cannot afford to buy it after
buying the M103. It sucked to go from 4 mill to 400k. But I know
once i get that tank under my belt i'll be making the change...
i hope so.

Maybe the only non-arty line I'd like to climb to X is the U.S.
autoloaders. Loved playing it on test -- less damage than the
Waffletracktor, but much more armor and a lot more mobile.
Sadly, the eleventy bajillion in silver, gold, and free XP we
get in test doesn't transfer to the live server, so will be
quite some time before I get there ...
