I was in the office when my assistant told me as she was on her
way to turn on the TV in the conference room. One part of the
company specialized in water cannons. We had proposed two years
earlier fitting out Sea Stallions with an extendable probe so
they could pump fire retardant into high rise buildings, it was
turned down due to lack of interest. I sat with my engineers as
we reviewed the designs, we still could not get anyone
interested in it after the tragedy.
I felt as bad that day as I did when Challenger blew up, back
then I was working for Thiokol who they tried to blame for the
explosion. Fortunately it was proved that although the o rings
had been a problem the real culprit was NASA not telling us how
low the overnight temperature had dropped which actually cause
       the o ring problem.
So yes, thoughts, prayers and memories not of a good nature due
to money and prestige being more important.

Teaching second grade. Principal called the staff together to
review emergency routines since the extent of the events was not
known. Schools were locked down. Got glimpses of events
unfolding via the internet as the day proceeded.

Took that day off as 9/11 is my son;s birthday. Wife and i made
cupcakes for his 2nd grad class the night before and walked him
to school. On th way back we stopped for cigs at a store. They
were talking about the first plane that hit. Wife was amazed. I
told her this happened back in the 1940s when a bomber hit the
       Empire State Building.
Got home and watching the report when the second plane hit. Wife
was asking what the hell was going on up there. I looked her
dead in the eye and said terrorist attack. When the first tower
fell, we were dumbfounded. When the second one went I remembered
yelling motherfuckers, motherfuckers at the top of my lungs.
Told my wife that when we find out who did this there's going to
be war. She asked why. Looked at her and said payback. Everyone
is gong to demand the government do something, and the only
thing they can do is hit the countries that supported these
       attacks.
We received a call from the school that they were doing early
release. My son (seven years old that day) was pissed that he
didn't get to pass out his cupcakes. Since that day he pretty
       much hates celebrating his birthday.
We saw the damage to the Pentagon when we went to visit the In
laws for Thanksgiving. National Guard still at the airport, and
my son noticed an idiot in uniform (not a soldier) tracking
passengers as they walked by with his 16, flipping his safety
       off and on.
Found a Sergeant told him what was going on. He thanked me and
pulled the kid aside and ripped into him. Some assholes in the
security line mentioned they could move the line faster if they
said there was a bomb. Out of nowhere security showed up, and
had these jerks on the ground so quick my wife had barely time
       to back away.
My son and I flipped around this morning and noticed with the
exception of FOX, who covered the Ground Zero ceremony, all the
other channels only showed the minute of silence form the White
House. Found that MSNBC was actually broadcasting the entire
2001 coverage. Interesting to see how the story, and the anchors
asking if there was a problem with the traffic control system
prior to the second plane going in. Really weird watching the
old reporting not like the crap they do today. Very
       professional.

Took my son to lunch for his 18th birthday with my brother who
is also born on Sept.11. It is a day I can always remember as
most others very easily. We heard it on the radio and turned the
car around and flew home to turn on the tv. Remember sitting in
AWE when they showed Bush calmly sitting in a 1st grade
classroom supposedly reading to the class with the book upside
down, when the woman came in and whispered in his ear.He
displayed no break in character and no emotional change at all,
nor did he adjourn. On national tv. I still find that as one of
the biggest WTF moments in my lifetime. And most of us watched
apollo 11. In defense of bush that was when the 2nd plane
struck, I just never understood why he was still there after the
       1st plane hit.

At work , heard it on the radio , then watched in a student
lounge tv for a while during lunch break . We all met in the
chapel , students , faculty and staff after lunch and they
decided to continue on for the day with classes the best they
could . I'll never forget seeing some students breaking down
during that meeting , was then I learned of the connection
between our school( prep school in the northeast ) and a lot of
families who's parents worked at or around the towers . To my
knowledge they all got out thankfully .
We did loose a former fellow co-worker that I had worked with
running data , he was on the 2nd plane that hit the towers , I
still remember his deep voice .

I was working just outside Pittsburg PA., in a small town , I
don't remember the name of the town , I was In the process of
closing down this little gas station , so I had ear protection
on in a backhoe, working , I took a break and went over to a car
where these two women were crying , I went over and asked if
everthing was ok? They told me what was going on, 2 planes hit
the twin towers...well, needless to say, I was upset, I had a 3
year old little girl and wife I was worried about, and could not
get through on the phone to anyone for a while " ALL CURCUITS
ARE BUSY !!!" was on the phone.....OH, SHIT !!!
I finally got thru to my office, and said I was going home, they
said , ya go home, I listened to news all the way home, 2 hour
ride, I thought we were at war...I figured here we go....I watch
that whole video, posted here.....powerful, I remember it like
       it was yesterday...feels like it...
