Optical Comparators - Anyone with experience?

My company is looking to buy a new optical comparator for my
use. The company that made our current one (RSK) is no longer in
the business. I'm thinking of a floorstander (not critical) a
14"-20" screen with powered (motorised) X-Y-Z travel. I was
looking at a Starret but I'm open to suggestions and opinions.

These guys make good cameras. Maybe they make good Comparators
       as well?

If you had played Battlefield, you'd know that is a SOFLAM.

As usual it all depends on what you can afford, I have always
had good luck with the Mitutoyo family range, have a look at
MSC, they have a pretty good cross section which they normally
will give you a competitive price for. My QC manager actually
does not like the motorized as he likes the ability to fine tune
by hand versus somewhat of a lack of control using a motor due
to the potential lag time from pressing the switch to it
actually stopping. I know this can be in mili-seconds but he
likens it to cracking a vault and finding the tumblers by touch
rather than sound :nerd: The PJ300 is a reasonable priced
machine, actually eBay is not a bad place to find one providing
it has come from a good home :thumb:

Thank God we have at least ONE reasonably informed person here.
Thank you Knight for raising the bar here at OFF. I was ready
       to recommend this version:

The overlords haven't specified specific budget yet, so I'll be
       proposing one.
The RSK I have now is manual and has good feel to it, but that
one is being moved to a secondary role now. I'm pushing for a
motorised one for automation/software control purposes.
I prefer new and would want support/warranty, so a authorized
vendor it will have to be. However, I'd be open to certified
       used models.
The PJ300 is too small for my use. Thanks though.

We have largely dropped our usage of OC's in favor of Faro Arms
with built in laser scanners, we have at least 12 of them in
both QC and in the shop for the operators to use for first
article and continuous WIP measurement. For our engineering
development team we have added 3D scanning equipment to them
which is like... :scream: accuracy especially for reverse
engineering. You will have to pay pretty high $$$ for over 14"
there are not many of them around at a reasonable price. Good
       hunting tank emoticon
