Possible 5x5 Fridays Alternatives?
DIR By: MissTaken ID

---------------------------------------------------------
So, I've been kicking around some ideas in my head, and wondered
if anyone else thinks it might be a good idea... not saying we
would have to do this every week, but maybe a once a month
thing, I don't know....
Anyway, I love doing the 5x5 Fridays--that being said, I hate
sitting in lobbies for long amounts of time twiddling my thumbs
(altho I usually am multi-tasking while I'm waiting)--and I know
a lot of other people feel similarly.
So what if....
We didn't run all platoons at the same time? Oftentimes, we are
waiting on one platoon to finish a game they started late
because they didn't get in with the first 5 platoons.
What if we were all still on the Euro server, but instead we
just had time blocks set aside for certain tiers? 8-8:30, we all
search tier 6's, 8:30-9 we all search 7's, or something like
that?
Another alternative would be not running in platoons at all, but
just all of us running solo, which would really mix up the
teams, and still allow for us to have more battles per hour, and
we could still be in parties with each other if we wanted?
Yet another alternative would be running in 5 man (or woman)
platoons, but you pick your platoon from the Dashboard? You can
look at a party in the Social section of the dashboard, and see
how many people they have. If they have 4 or less, join the
party, and then start up the game, and the leader can send you
an invite. If they already have 5 people, you find another
group. This would cut out the time spent re-forming platoons,
also giviing us more games per hour. Or the platoon leader could
just close the party once it reaches 5 people, and you are free
to join any platoon that has an open party? (This might also cut
down on lag issues caused by the "Party bug.")
Obviously, we do the 5x5 because we love the social aspect of
it. I think there might be an alternative that would still give
us a lot of the OFF on OFF games that we love, without all the
downtime.
Ideas? Comments?
(And feel free to tell me to STFU, maybe it IS fine the way it
is? I promise I won't hate you for speaking your mind, because
everyone knows I certainly speak MINE haha!)
:peace:

Everyone running solo in the EU server in the same tier for a
set period of time sounds like a great idea - I would try and
stay awake for that!

Sounds good. Anything to speed up games played can't hurt, but I
usually get on between 10-11pm est and by then a lot of players
start dropping and new players join and that takes time to sort
out the platoons. But I'll play either way. :charge:

Sounds good. Keeps the tanks a rollin' and that silver flowin'.

I agree with the not wanting to wait in lobbies for long periods
of time. I like the idea of everyone running solo, or, all
platoons running the same tier. Ie. this week for 5v5 it could
be tier 7 the whole night, next week it could be tier 8. I am
pretty certain we will constantly be matched up against one
another. It would avoid having to wait.
As Faethor would say, we aren't making any silvers in the
garage.

Good ideas all. Each Friday a specific tier, or two tiers (Lower
tier runs in the first block of time as suggested by Erin, then
the higher tier for the rest of the night).
Platoons (for team aspect) launching at their own pace without
waiting for the other participants works as well. Not to mention
save the event coordinator the headache of keeping things
flowing.

I like these ideas. The low server pops should work to our
advantage without the delays and cat herding the other format
created. Plus, we could still keep the sign-up active to give an
indication of who is gonna run that night.

I agree with this as well, either platoons launching at their
own time or individuals. I do like the ides of locking in tiers
for a specific hour. say tier 6 from 9-10, 7 from 10-11, 8 from
11-12, and so on. This is so we can get a little diversity in
the tanks we drive and allows for people/ groups to tackle some
of their grinds.
We could set sign ups for the platoons on the Companion site by
time of "launch". Chris and I usually get on at around 10pm
EST, so either one of us could form the Spartans at 10pm, and
others that want to form up at 10 pm sign up under the Spartans.
Ruggers and a couple of others could start a 9pm platoon.

Wouldn't it be too hard to keep track of what tier everyone is
on? Everyone is on different time zones. I know most of the time
when I am playing I don't pay attention to the time.
