My Son's Highschool Robotics Competitoin.....

Some of you all know, but my son is a member of a competitive
high school robotics team. Today and tomorrow they are
participating in the New England Regionals, as the 19th ranked
team, with the chance to go to the Nationals in St Louis in a
few weeks.
The theme is recycling. You have six weeks to design and build a
robot that can load up and stack recycling totes and cans and
move them across a field of play. The higher the stack and if
you can pur a can on top, you get more points. You have 90
seconds and are competing against another alliance. The cool
thing is that you cooperate with 2 other teams against another
alliance of 3, each robot has strengths and weaknesses so you
try and create strategic partnerships to complement the robots.
Their team is team number 173 ---R.A.G.E. Robotics... It is a
round robin tourney until the finals.
This is some pretty high tech stuff and they are actually Twitch
streaming the competition - Today until 6ish EST and tomorrow as
well.
I was trying to embed the twitch feed here if anyone wants to
see what is going on.... but can only give a link to the feed.
It is pretty neat!

ROBOTICS!!!!
Didn't you see Terminator!!!!
:scream:
Actually, that is awesome - I couldn't begin to understand what
your son is doing....physics is the only "science" I somewhat
understand.

They get extra points if you can toss noodles, javelin style,
into the other teams side.
Here is a picture of the robot in the pits.

Here is a short video of the pits....Sort of a cross between a
science fair/ NASCAR/ WWE. Warning to Faethor, is may be a
little jiggly......

Congrats! I know that is a very difficult competition. It is
amazing how much work and effort goes into programming the robot
so it will accomplish those "simple" tasks, hours and hours.
I assist our middle school robotics team and even at their level
the workload is amazing.
Wish him the best of luck and keep us posted on the results. We
have some really great prizes, I am assuming you do as well?

I actually judged part of the middle school Lego League robotics
competition. The overarching group that my son belongs to is
the First Robotics, which was founded by Dean Kaman, the Segway
inventor.
