I was told this morning that i no longer have a job because it

. the kicker is ocean city just build the new bridge two years
ago and it has a bike path that people use all the time , the
otherkicker is that i live in nj so the employer can fire you at
will which means that they can fire u just for the hell of it .
so much for showing up to work ahour before my shift for 4 years
and not missing aday all last season , anyone looking for a
hotel manager thatwill be ther when he says he will and then

Any excuse in the hospitality industry... I've had a bunch of
new coworkers the past couple years who got "let go" from those
places for less. Makes me glad I got out of the casino a decade
ago. Good luck out there.

Sorry to hear that..... Have spent many a summer with a group of
friends/family renting a place in OC. Isn't it is supposed to
be a real "Family" destination?????? Good luck!

Dude ... that sucks. Truly.
To be honest, I'm stunned they even tried to give you an excuse.
Most companies in "at will" states have learned not to bother
and just fire people without cause. Leads me to believe that at
least someone must've felt bad. So you can hang your hat on
that.
I only know one person on Jersey, but not sure precisely where
(I know it's close to the Atlantic coast). I'll fire her off a
message and see if she knows of anything. Can't hurt, right?
:thumb:
In the meantime, how's about we do some platooning tonight?
Maybe killing some reds will make ya feel better. I should be on
around 9:30 or so your time and will hit ya up if you're online.
:salute:

Sorry to hear that Darth. I do not know of any openings in hotel
management, but after taking a quick look at Craigslist here in
Middle TN (Nashville), there does seem to be some hospitality
management opportunities that could fit that skill set. We are
an at will state as well, but have never heard of a worker as
you described ever being fired in my area. I will say Nashville
and the surrounding area do have an economy doing better than
most, and with a lot of opportunity. We also do not have an
income tax and fair wages compared to cost of living. The
weather is also much better than NJ (no offense to folks from
NJ, but the truth is the truth), four balanced seasons. Plus
life is way more laid back for us. So if you are looking to get
out of NJ, take a look at what our area has to offer, because we
need another OFFer in Tennessee. Yes, pun intended!

Opryland is always looking for people, I know of four small
hotels that are under construction, or just opened here in the
Clarksville TN area.
StatesR left out low cost of living, stable real estate market,
no state income tax , CCWs are easy to get and I paid $1.94 for
gas today.

Damn, that sux. One thing that has always bothered me about the
whole employee/employer relationship is that while it's
considered a courtesy to give your employer a 2 week notice if
you're leaving, they can fire you/let you go/eliminate your
position/lay you off at the drop of a hat. States that have the
"at will" clause will do so more often, but even those that do
not can maike up some bs just to get you out the door.
I've been at my current employer 24.5 years, and did survive the
last purge in late 2008. The way they're letting a lot of the
long term folks go is kinda scary, though...
Good luck in your search. Aside from the Nashville area, I know
Houston, TX is starting to swing again.

That is terrible, I work in Kentucky and it is also an at will
state however if your employer has policies that are place that
define how/why you would be terminated then the company needs to
follow those policy. in many cases in Kentucky the companies
have employee hire and fire policies and that protects the
employee from wrongful or unwarranted termination. the courts
see these as contracts. Hope you fined another job soon.
